In 2.0, I didn't collect Philo because it seemed like too much of a grind. I was content to level other characters to 50 instead.

In 2.1, I had more Philo than I knew what to do with and easily maxed out my gear with it and then some because it literally poured out of multiple sources.

In 2.2, Philo became obsolete and I traded what I had on my characters for Myth.

So, when it comes to the Atma grind, I feel that this too shall pass. I'm not interested in challenging the hardest content right now, so I can wait for an easy Atma weapon in 2.3.

To be fair people waiting for hours for a specific FATE are Google impaired, after my first 45 minutes waiting for the infamous "Giant Seps", I decided to google it and found that the number of FATE's per area are caped and you have to clear the current FATE's to let new ones pop, otherwise you are waiting for the timers to expire.

So... how exactly does this information help anyone? You still have to wait. You can't exactly run around and help clear out the current FATEs either, or else the people who are waiting for the specific one needed will zerg it and kill it before you can get back. You also still have no exact indication of when it'll pop again.

I'm really surprised people sub defaulted this when it is absolutely sound advice.

The particular FATE in question when this reply was made, "Giant Seps," was downed in no time at all by just a few players and their chocobos when I got my clear. Unless I was at a FATE that was extremely close to this one (and even then, it would be cutting it close), there's no way I'd have been able to get to it in time to get credit. Doing other FATEs in the area is most definitely a gamble which may or may not pay off.

The sad thing is...Atma farming isn't even hard...it's just MIND NUMBINGLY BORING! You are either stuck farming low level fates...or high level fates that take ages to finish due to lack of participation if you are also unfortunate enough to play during off-peak hours.

MIND NUMBINGLY BORING
Yeah, that describes it pretty well.
For all those who actually like how this grind is implemented: seriously consider buying a light switch.
Then press it over and over for the next 2 weeks.
Pretty close to Atma farming, and easier to watch netflix.

Is there a chance of me getting stronger if I press the light switch?

Anyway, once again it must be said that feasible alternatives exist so people getting their panties in a bunch over this content (and the people who doing it) is completely silly.

One thing that helped me get through this was watching by Choco lvl up some. Don't forget to unlock the challenge log first!
Tip: mob has to be 5 lvls from yours for the companion challenge. When you lvl sync, the non-FATE mobs near are normally ~5 lvls from you. They count to your log while synced.

I've got a better idea: why not just log out and watch Netflix.

A whole lot easier than complaining on the forums.

Yeah I'm thinking a lot of people don't have some secondary source of entertainment. Like a TV, or a second monitor.

I put on a trance station, turn the music up fairly high, and jam any time I do junk like this. For me it's no different from healing for hours as a red mage in XI was. (Hell, it's easier than a 3 hour colibri burn was on BRD...)

Problem is, when you flick the switch the lights go on or off every time unless you blow a fuse or the bulb. Been random Atma grinding since the patch, have 2 left... It's frustrating and I wish you could do it to level a different class... But I look at it like my THF knife in XI, except I'm almost guaranteed participation in a FATE. My Choco has gained 2.5 levels and I've capped GC seals twice and bought a ton of retainer tokens so it's not a complete wash.

oh god thief knife before the change

For me it was Moldavite Earring. 1/57 on that goblin. It became a running gag. I almost ended up getting my Novio earring before I got Moldy...

I'm through my Atmas phase and as stated, the phase after Atmas is what the people ******** about wanted. Atma grinding wouldn't have been bad if it wasn't tied to FATE but FATEs are what people requested of SE during ARR's development so they don't know what real open world is or what real grinding could be.

What's funny about your lightswitch thing is...flipping it to get instant results = Wanting instant gratification with atmas, no?

I think you misunderstood what was meant by that analogy.

Incandescent Bulbs can blow if you turn them on/off repeatedly, because you are rapidly heating and cooling the filament, right?

He's trying to say Atma Farming is a lot like trying to purposefully blow a light bulb by flicking the switch over and over and over again. You know it SHOULD happen, and hey. Sometimes you'll flick the switch 5 times and it'll pop. But yet... sometimes... you can flick that damn switch 5000 times and the light still works.

Kinda like the Atma, no?

He's trying to compare doing Lv5 fates with flicking a light switch because he's saying they both have a similar amount of effort/thought, which is to say almost none at all. And I'd have to say.... yes.... Being Lv9-10 wailing on a Lv4-5 FATE is pretty damn easy (and boring for at least 3 classes I've played thusfar: GLD, ARC, CNJ). I've done it myself. ARC has to be the worst I've seen yet, though. Spamming the "2" Key is.... not exactly what I'd call complicated gameplay. No reason to even bother with Venom Bite, because... well the thing is going to die in 2 seconds anyways, right?

Protip: Trying to talk tough on the internet just makes you look like an idiot.

But that's ok! It gives us something to laugh and roll our eyes at.

Keep it real, people.

Threatening other people with harm only makes you look bad (and unable to speak for a few days).

Yeah... That was kinda dumb... maybe I should have said muted instead of sub-default.

Guys, I mean it... the mutes go both ways.

No. Physical. Threats. Or. Bullying. Period.
