Here's how my PF groups for T1-4 look lately:

for(;;){
          if(you == "don't know what you're doing" || you != "communicative"){
                         player = "don't join";
          else
                        player = "welcome";
           }
}

I'm fine with teaching. I put together many T4 groups this weekend (and today). I tried to convey what to do to the people who joined my group that said experienced members only. They absolutely refused to even communicate with me. I told them EXACTLY what to do and couldn't even get them to respond with,"OK I understand."

Really, your best bet is to just make your own group and say it is a learning group. I see plenty of those in PF frequently.

This is too funny! I'd be perfectly happy going into a dungeon never having done it before with no guilds or YouTube watched. How do you think the first people to beat it won? If you're good and can find good people to play it wont matter. With that said, I know some people would rather be carried through content with people who have already beat it and then those who say you are wasting everyone's time if you don't watch a vid. I don't ascribed to that logic either. You can watch a video all day, but if you're afraid to even enter the content it won't matter and it certainly will not matter when you actually do it cus practical experience is better then theoretical experience. The main issue I have with the OP is that if you only look in PF for groups and get turned off by what you read there, I can't help you. Those things are a joke and usually set up by someone who has never done it, or sucks at doing it and wants to get carried. Several people in my FC have joined groups with those,also with high iLevel requirements, and STILL FAIL. They can go with people lower ilevel, no experience and still win. You can't believe everything you read on the internet in party finder.

I thought it was hilarious how I was seeing "EXP ONLY" runs for Levi/Thornmarch EX within 24 hours of the content being released. I mean, come on guys.

ok someone answer this question for me... Ive done Turn 1 (and completed it) a million times as a brd and healer, so i know what to do/not to do know the fights etc etc. Now I wanna go as tank... since it would be my first time going as a tank )even though ive done the run enough to have sen what tanks do) would i join an experiences run or would i have to go with progression?

Send a tell to the PF group leader and ask them.

So you get a job to il90 but cant do certain endgame content because "experienced only" or "must have completed before"? how do you get experience or complete said content if 99% of groups wont take ppl without experience or completion? What happened to the helpful community days of FFXI where just having the right level or gear was enough to do the content and experience would be gained by doing it... i.e doing Dynamis for the first time? No he puller/leader just walks the newbies through what to do/not do as you went and everyone still wins and has no problems. Where did all THOSE kinda people go?

I know right!?

If only SE made something.. SOMETHING to let people make ... I don't know what to call them... friends? II'll define a new term on UrbanDictionary today.

Friends: People you have previously met, and enjoy the company of.

So now, if only Se would make some system, like a "Friends List" where you could easily communicate with these "friends." Even better!! What if they made a system by which groups of like-minded "friends" could join a larger group to collaborate and do activities together. Lets call these "Free Companies" or "Linkshells."

Man, I should work for SE with my brilliance.

Even more off the wall, what if they made a system that allowed you to "find" random people in a "duty!?" That would be great.

umm make friends..... ok.. lets see.. -starts playing game as new character- Walks around at level 1, oooo a quest!! lemme do it.... yay its solo!!!! gets to level 5. ooo class quest, lemme do it!!! its solo!! oh well time to work on my SOLO hunting log..... hmmm finds some main missions, theyre all solo too.... hmmm lemme try one of those FATEs.. now THIS isnt solo however its not exactly a sociable experience either.... eventually hits level 15.. oooo a dungeon finally, theres no WAY this can be solo -scrolls down on journal- YAY!! it even says 4 players woot!! Im sure to make friends here. Queues up Duty Finder and enters dungeon.... wtf it matches me with other people on other servers that ill most likely never see again afterwards?!?!?! -repeats EVERYTHING listed above until level 50. Now Im max level, beaten the gae and yet have just as many friends as I had when I started.

Now get back to me on how easy "making friends" is?

Gone are the days where you could be out on the field soloing something that can actually kill you, only to get aggro from a second mob in the process and running away is all but useless, and just as your hp is about to hit 0 you get cured out or nowhere, all of a sudden your will to fight is invigorated, you give both mobs everything youve got and the cures keep coming in, until eventually they both fall, you thank the stranger who saved your life and the twpoo of you become friends for years (you even repaying the favor and saving his life or helping him out on more than one occasion throughout your long lasting friendship), that was one of my best and most memorable experiences in FFXI, and what got my addicted to MMOs and the community in the first place..... rewind to 5+ years in the future and now all MMOs turn into.... this.

At least from what I see an read about ESO it looks like itll be going back to that, with open world content that actually matters, venturing too far from the starting areas without leveling up well first will get you killed, and PUBLIC dungeons, while I can look at the gameplay and say it definitely wont be the funniest MMO Id have played (ffxiv seem WAY more fun in that regard) but itll at last be the type of MMO ive wanted to play since I stopped playing FFXI. I bet I wont have ANY problem making friends in that one.

I think you meant does not compute? Also yes Im sure If i stood around town and chatted I ddo the same... but it I wanted to sand around in town chatting while accomplishing nothing I can go to facebook or some internet chatroom and do that, you should be able to make friends while actively PLAYING the game... kind alike exp partying in XI. it was easy to chat in between pulls and leveling, after all you were gonna be doing the same "exciting" thing for 3+ hours might as well try to make it entertaining

#1 I think we best not go on about spelling errors.

#2 If one can't make friends in a game it's not the games fault.

#3 If one can't make friends from doing something simple like standing in town, then how do you plan to do the same with more complex activities?

Its hard to be empathetic for me again because I have a friends list full of people who I didn't even asked to be befriended. The friends I do have and play with are NOT on my friends list for the most part because I communicate with them via LS/FC/TS3/Vent. And lastly as I say about anything that doesn't work out for a particular individual, there is only ONE common denominator. Fix that and you may fix your problems.

1. I agree lol

2. If said game puts in mechanics that are counter productive to doing so (duty finder putting you with people from different servers youll most likely never see again instead of only sticking to those on your server) then its definitely the games fault.

3. I very well can do that, in fact I said I could but I also said I shouldnt have to. I should be able to make friends just playing as the game is intended.. i.e in the process of, killing stuff, leveling up and "saving the world"

SNIP

I made most of my friends grinding Titan HM for relic. It's under stressful conditions you can tell if someone is a total ***hat and asks you to kick someone for a minor mistake, a sassy jerk who doesn't take advice well, or a well-rounded and competent individual.

Maybe you had trouble making friends and I'm sorry for that. But you cannot blame the game, you can only blame yourself. If you got to iLVL 90 without making any, I think you should look inward.

getting to il90 isnt that difficult... how hard is speedrunning WP everyday (when myth cap capped) and buying a full set of myth il90 gear?

now if coil was the ONLY way to get il90 gear and it couldnt be duty finder.

then one of two things would happen:

1) Id never be at il90

or

2) Id have PLENTY of friends, because that would be the only wya to get in coil and get il90 stuff...

kind alike how being in parties was the ONLY (efficient) way to lvl up past 15 in FFXI

I ran random events that I never did before through shouts. It's as simple as saying "I've never done this but I watched videos."

People who like to make friends because they enjoy having friends are perfectly capable of making friends regardless of the way this game is structured. But if you're only interested in making friends in order to make in-game progress, you should probably look around for FCs or statics that are recruiting instead. On my server, it's not uncommon to see FCs recruiting through shouts and through the PF.

If you don't have any friends who enjoy teaching others, and you're not in a FC or LS with people who enjoy teaching others, and you don't want to make a commitment to a static that's willing to teach you and learn alongside with you, and you don't want to put in the time and effort to learn from youtube video guides and start learning groups in PF yourself... well, you're stuck.

Sorry. It is what it is. You'll just have to DF the stuff that you can and put up with long waits for volatile groups, flaky people, and painful failures. You're going to get out what you're willing to put in. You can't expect much more than that.

Id be perfectly ok with being in a static or FC for that its not common on my server to see those shouts either, however they seem to schedule or operate with the assumption that the whole word works 9-5 mon-friday and thus have all nights to play and the weekends off to play further.. however thats not how the REAL world works.

now when I see a static shout or FC advertising for lets sat 8am-12pm or midnight-3am on weekdays (and weekends), trust and believe Ill be the the FIRST person in line to join that group or FC

... Then be the FIRST person in line and CREATE an FC or a Static that has playtimes that fit your schedule... As inferred, you are not the only one not on a 9-5 schedule - there has to be more like you.

and to that i say, logically that makes perfect sense, but seeing as ive yet to see such a shout in the 8 months ive been playing, then clearly I MUST be the only one (or at least the only serious/non casual) not on a 9-5 schedule

So is it any shock to you that every FC and static recruiting effort you've ever seen is for people with typical work schedule? You can say stuff like "Well that's not how the REAL world works", but if you're in the minority, you can't expect everyone else to go out of their way to cater to your specific needs.

Your attitude here continues to baffle me. You don't want to spend time or effort using the Party Finder of starting your own FC because you expect it to have no results... yet you're mad at players who don't want to party with you through incredibly difficult content for that same reason, namely their fear of no results.

Helpful FFXI community? What? I think you're romanticizing FFXI quite a bit... honestly the community was one of the worst things about the game in my opinion.

Anyways... start your own party. Use the Party Finder. You can even put something in the comments welcoming others in the same ship that you're in. Be proactive.

My server (Phoenix) had plenty of great ppl on it willing to help out. we also had our share of asshats. I think most servers were the same. Maybe it just depended on what time you played.

Ok so update.. I joined a T4 progression group (it was 7/8 so i didnt have to wait). We go iin kill teh spiders, , kill the knights and soldier with maybe only one sold up before Dread spawn... and that as far as we got. Which to me was a huge sense of accomplishment since that fight is so "omgbbqwtf experienced/completed only" difficult that I was 100% confident that wed get eaten alive by the spiders.

So after more attempts and failing at the point the PT disbands, so i think to myself, that wasnt nearly as hard as I thought it was gonna be. So i check pt finder see a "T4 completed only" group. I join anyway, we go right in there and one shot it, and no one even for a second questioned or wondered whether or not i had done it before. SO i think Ive successfully proven my own point of "One newbie in a group of 7 experienced wont mean the difference between success or failure unless of course that newbie is a tank, healer or is a DPS with an IMPORTANT role (i.e feeding slime to cad), other than "stand in this spot and kill thins in this order"

Oh and one other thing... that T4 fight was actually quite fun... that too kinda felt like a raid, just not enough traveling for my tastes

Complaining is the most useless activity you could dedicate your time to. If you don't like something, if something bothers you, do something about it.

And no, something does not include giving an internet forum 800 excuses as to why you are taking no action.
