I just found out about the echo buff being applied to older content, including Coil 1-5, starting with patch 2.2

Apparently it's a big deal, what is everyone's thoughts on this?

Will Coil be too easy now? Does it even matter since ilvl 90 will not be the best gear any longer?

You can click it off - all arguments moot.

My only concern is if they changes the content itself to be easier, rather than just apply the Echo Buff.

I think I know what my FC is going to do in regards to The Echo buff - keep it off until we're convinced we've got the content down to farming level, then leave the Echo buff on during farming to save time/trouble.

Not certain though.

So why would you not want the buff on? Just curious, if the loot is not BiS what's it matter if it was easier to obtain now that we're moving on to the next tier of armor?

You also get an Echo buff on previously failed solo missions, and all that does is boost your stats without changing the fight itself, so I'd imagine this would work the same way. I can't imagine that anyone would voluntarily switch it off given that most people want to rush to the finish as quickly as possible, but the option is there for the determined.

My group will be doing T5 without the buff however there are still other coil changes that nerf the difficulty. The Echo buff is removable manually but then you have to make sure everyone does it or else it feels 'cheap'. Let's not start an argument about buying relics or cheating here or beating it the right way, this is an in game change.

I guess the alternative is that we simply one shot T5 lol.

For us? It's a matter of challenging the content the way it was designed to earlier in the game. Those who just took a while to get a static to challenge the content to begin with, would want to challenge the content pre-nerf if at all possible. That's what my FC has decided to do.

We're not focus on gear as much as we are on Raid Progression (Challenging each Raid Until we've got it down and got the loot, then moving on) . Yes, we inevitably want Best in Slot, but we're also a RP FC and we want to collect equipment for roleplaying sets as well. (My character Lin in particular looks quite nice in Allegan.)

As it stands, we're opting out of getting best currency-based equipment to cash in on the new currency Craft Meterials and hopefully make gil for our Medium House free Company fund.

It won't really matter. You will want to farm coil in DF, I assume, for chances at gear for the glamour system. That gear will no longer be BiS so no harm, no foul. Even Levi's weapons will be i100, probably outclassing Allagan weapons from Twin off the bat. This doesn't even consider the new currency loot and new coil loot.

I would like others to experience it the way I did but this wasn't exactly a well received method during CoP. Making it more available to people isn't necessarily a bad thing.

That said, nerfing one of the only 'endgame' instances in game so soon is just...stupid IMO. Not only are they adding changes to specific turns, but the echo buff will give you an advantage as well. Probably should have waited till the next major patch to introduce the echo buff.

I agree, more incremental nerfs would seem more wise.

I've never found any sources for this, but people in my FC keep telling me that the echo buff wont be available until a couple weeks after 2.2 drops. Anybody else hear of this?

Players who would normally continue playing old content are now motivated to clear it faster because they feel it's obsoleted by higher tier content. You should only feel bad if you have been working on it since it came out and you haven't cleared it yet. Otherwise, it's just a way for you to catch up so you don't have that feeling the next time the tier increases. That's how it usually works with vertical progression.

I for one actually welcome this idea. I put a lot of hours into the game, but end game raiding isn't really my bag. It's not the difficulty of the content so much, it's more the whole "scene" of it. My FC is small and has people of a variety of skill levels and desire to run these instances. I'm under no illusion that if we ran this content as a group, it would be fail after fail, due to connection/hardware/skill issues, so I usually do PUG T1-4. This opens up my real issue, people. You join a PUG, start the run. 1 wipe later, everyone is a "@#$@#*^ n00b and shouldn't be allowed to play" and the group disbands. This mentality has meant i daren't join a T5 party, as I'm a n00b to it, and with no static for support, means I'm in limbo. However, give the members of my FC a buff which should allow some of us to carry others, and it's game on. I will have a sensible, patient group of people willing to work on content that may be outdated to some of you, but is fresh to us. The guys who get their weekly clears or who have been working at Twin for months with their stativs may see it as cheapening an experience, I see it as a way to make this content accessible to everyone.

Looking over the patch notes I can only see this as an extreme positive. Why you ask? RAGE QUITTERS! You know, people who jump ship if you can't one shot content. Well now there is incentive to stick around. If you can one shot content you don't get a buff. If you can't, you get a boost to help and another boost if you fail again and again up to a certain percentage. There are many reasons like Velerophon said that makes some content hard to pass and simply saying GTFO N00b doesn't solve anything. This on the other hand could.

You have to beat turns 1-5 to get to 6-9, but the echo buff will be applied to coil in a future patch. For 2.2 the hm primals will buff 10% at a time up until 50%, and the ex primals will step up in increments by 5%.

Good way to combat rage quitters.

Its in the patch notes

The Binding Coil of Bahamut

Players may now enter the Binding Coil of Bahamut via the Duty Finder with a full party.
* With a later update, the Echo buff will be applied to all party members upon incapacitation. Moreover, a full party will no longer be required to register via the Duty Finder.

EDIT: ok I see in a later post where you go it.. dont know how I missed that..

Incremental buffs sound pretty good, not sure 50 percent though that sound like it might be too easy but I guess that depends on what the buff gives you too.. If that is 50 percent to your stats wow.

It also requires you to have been engaged for at least 3 minutes before you get the buff. Someone want to do some maths on how long it would take to get 50%?

Ok where does it say incremental buffs and how they work? Or is it speculation based on what has been said?.

Wow not only are they adding buffs they nerfed it a little too:
Quote:
The likelihood that players will be paralyzed by the attack High Voltage has been reduced. Furthermore, the paralysis effect can now be removed by spells such as Esuna.

When exiting the Eorzean Subterrane, players will now be transported to Fallgourd Float in North Shroud.
Players will only appear in the area following the completion of Turn 5 when cleared for the first time.

Lol you're going to be that sole person that does click it off though when it becomes the common strategy to purposefully wipe at least 3 times on ex primals for it.

I mean no one has done enrage turn 2 that type of strategy before to make things "easier".

This is why I say for someone to do some maths. You don't just walk in, wipe, and get the buff. It takes time to build up.

He stated at least 3 minutes has to pass. Doing some math, depending on "cool down" in between build up, if you take into consideration how people willingly spend longer than needed in Turn 2 for the :"easier method", it will take no time at all. :p

Now that I have seen the patch notes, I like how SE implemented this. It's only automatic on the stuff thats getting much easier just by virtue of new gear.

You really need to read more than the first post and react to it blindly without any sort of understanding. If you had bothered to, you would have realized that my views reflect my Free Company's approach to raiding.

As far as intentionally wiping to abuse the Echo buff? Have fun with that. Personally, I'll drop out of any group that does, not that I'd have to. I've got a free company that shares my views - kind of a paramount requirement to enjoying this game, in my opinion.

Will it become common practice for Duty Finder groups? I don't believe so. Pride will have players attempt it genuinely, as well as players who, like me, who would prefer to conquer challenges without handholds. You will likely see "No Echo" show up on Party Finder Groups occasionally.
