The Final Answer - Is this game worth getting now or not?Follow

A lot of people have been asking whether or not FFXIV:ARR is worth purchasing lately and since I have some time before I get off work I thought I would put together my honest and un-biased opinion about some of the game aspects and players I've meet after about 6 months of play.

Roleplaying – If you like roleplaying then this is the game for you. They all do it, every single player… ALL OF THEM. At any given time. From marriage proposals to that special someone on Valentine’s day to snuggling next to your significant other on the beach to two lalafell dry-humping down by the docks… it’s all here. Killing dungeon mobs got you in a tizzy? Take a fellow gamer into the corner and start emoting like crazy, your dungeon companions won’t mind. They’ll wait, watch, take screenshots and sometimes join in. I gave some Elezen 40g for a reach around… I got gypped. Smiley: mad

PvE – This is one of the major highlights of the game. The areas are beautiful and original looking, the mobs are well designed (though you may have seen most of them before in FFXI) with some cool mechanics and the dungeons are fun and easy to navigate through with some decent rewards at the end. You can solo all the way to lv50 (finally) or play in a group. The main storyline is entertaining with some part reading and some part voice acting which is translated from Japanese to whichever language your server uses. (You can stop moving your lips now cuz you stopped talking a while ago… seriously... move on already!)

End-game – Not a whole lot to the end-game at the moment but that will be improved on when patches and expansions are released. Most of the time you’ll spend once you hit lv50 is grinding daily duties, daily roulette and so on over and over again. Oh and saving up for months to get some crappy apartment on the lower-eastside while trying to dodge the neighborhood transvestite female (played by rl males) Miqo'tes because you and your in-game or rl partner want some place to act weird. Why start now? We’ve seen it already, the damage is done! Smiley: oyvey

PvP – AHAHAHAHAAAAhaaaaa…. It’s bad grasshopper-san… so very bad.Smiley: banghead

Crafting – You can craft if you want to or not, it’s doesn’t really matter. Just remember (especially when you first start out) your s**t will break and break often. But no real end reward from what I can see except for making some end-game food, potions and hooker outfits for your fellow man-cat.

Community – The amount of players you’ll see running around depends on the server you choose. By now most players are lv50 and don’t do much when they actually log-on other than make vulgar half-naked gestures at you when you’re running through town and a few outside zones. Two types of people play this game, extremely courteous and helpful and vengefully emo and spiteful, there is no middle ground here… tread lightly. There are also a lot of female Miqo’tes running around or stripping in town… A LOT. Just remember 97% of them are actually guys (or in some cases NPCs) and should be ignored. When you encounter one of these gender confused man-cats trying to flirt with you (and they will), simply be polite and back away SLOWLY. You don’t want to invoke their emo-wrath. If this doesn’t work simply start shouting “I NEED AN ADAULT, I NEED AN ADULT”. At this point they usually explain they were only fooling around and have a rl gf (sure you do buddy, sure you do). You may find this sort of thing entertaining and even play along. I find it a little creepy, and by little I mean very… like ginger children of the corn creepy.

Speaking of creepy…

Smiley: yikes WTF is that?! This little lady (Edvya) has haunted my dreams for a while now (like that goddamn shelf elf)… it looks like it’s going to eat my sole. Someone needs to shoot this thing in the face, burn it then shoot it again. Although that still probably won’t destroy it… You may have to take the one ring to Mordor and toss it into the fires of Mt. Doom for this one fella.

I should wrap this up because we all have something better to do. So in conclusion: If you have the $30 to spend then it’s worth playing for a month to check it out and see all the craziness-beautiful-weirdness that goes on in this game. But if you want my honest answer then click below.

I haven’t actually played the game yet, I'm still contemplating if I want to get it or not myself so… sorry for wasting your time.Smiley: laugh Enjoy yoself! Smiley: sly

That's just an aspect of the internet. People feel like they don't need a middle ground due to the anonymity. So they'll be an angel or they'll be a huge ****. But the Duty Finder definitely reinforces it.

Your spoiler message was pretty funny after I read your entire block of text. You devil.

I agree, basically. There's a lot wrong with the game but in the end, there's probably worse things to spend $30 on.
