What's the naughtiest thing you've found in the game?Follow

There is a great deal of sexual innuendo, drunkenness, debauchery, and all around unwholesomeness in this game. I love it.

But what's the one thing that SE included that maaaaaaay be a little over the top?

For me, it's the fate "Consigned, Sealed, and Undelivered" in Easter La Noscea where you deliver the "Cute Courtesan" to the visiting dude on the other side of the beach. Once she arrives, she and her... uh.... client Aismurl Goldmember run off into the cabin giggling.

There's that quest at Camp Bronze Lake where you have to poke and rub oil on that old guy.

Yeah, that was very creepy.

My favorite was the BLM quest named, "You'll never go back"

In one of the Goldsmith quests, Serendipity talks about the size of her boobs. Though that's only because her automaton had just insulted her about them. Nasty little thing, he is!

For me it was one quest in Ala Mhigo where they threw in a rape victim for some worldbuilding, but I thought it was really poorly done.

That puff puff breaking bricks cut scene where it looks like the girls are going south and then come up with those fury things.

Or this one from the same thing where the girl is showing her backside continually at the end.

From what I understand, that was a nod to the original Puff Puff cave in the Dragon Quest games, where the screen goes black while you're in the Puff Puff cave - until the very end when you discover you've been making out with a slime in there. Smiley: laugh

If I remember right there was a scene in the main scenario where Gaius tells Livia Sas Junius to meet him in his quarters for some alone time.

Not ARR relevant, but I remember in 1.0 you could hire a mi'qote female companion to talk for you in the story, and she will imply that she slept with quite a few people to get information on where to go for the next task of the story

The golden bazaar has two ladies who are flirting and trying to get you to sleep with them. A few yalms away there's hyur warning you that they gave him the crotch-rot.

I love the whole mature theme of XIV. It's fitting and a realistic image what happens in a world where there's no jobs due to the calamity, mining only being there for those with the strength and endurance for it, fishing offers scraps since most of the fish are gone and adventuring is only for the people brave enough for it. Naturally there would be plenty of offers for relaxation since the adventurers have gil and lots of it.

Before the Calamity, those ladies were inside the miner's guild. I think they got asked to leave by the guildmaster. They followed the miners to Golden Bazaar due to the cloud marble or mythril or whatever it is they found up there. Smiley: laugh

I'm pretty sure during the Black Mage quest they said, "once you go black, you never go back". I don't know who writes this stuff in. It just seems like some stereotypical thing that a real racist bimbo must say - if anyone says it - it sounds like racism/stereotyping to all parties involved. It's the same thing as saying "once you go white, blacks are never alright!" That sounds bad, right?

But they also made this joke in other quests related to the color black in some way so I guess they're really trying to drive the joke home with repeated attempts.

I find it kind of funny that you guys believe these things to make the game more mature. They seem like jokes to make young kids laugh. I'm pretty sure there's "over 9000" and other epic jokes in there too.

It's a blessing and curse of pop culture. If it's your thing, it's cool to see a nod to it. In general, even alluding to whores or acts of sex isn't something I'd exactly call common in the (MMO)RPG genre. Does that automatically make it more adult? No, not really, but you can bet it'll invoke an M or higher from a ratings board.

There's also a degree of fourth wall to be had. "Ifrit Bleeds, We Can Kill It!" may be a nod to Predator as a quest name, but it's not exactly something an NPC says and thus remains more a viewer thing. On the other hand, I'm reminded of FFX and when Tidus makes a Macarena joke. The Macarena, as a stylized dance/song of the time, most assuredly did not exist in Spira. Something like that is a bad breaking of the fourth wall.

In the end, I usually find it silly to be okay with depicting acts of brutal violence or even implying it, but the moment you wanna slap a digital tit on the screen, all gloves are off. Sex certainly isn't my priority for entertainment, but I'm not ignorant that it ranks pretty high for others or simply gains appeal through taboo status our culture propagates. I doubt Yoshi would ever go Kojima-tier on depicting on a dark side of any of this, though. So, at best, it'll be some dark humor, if not juvenile (like the oil rubbing).

I always found that so stupid too.

You can brutally murder people all day long and nobody cares except for a few old-timeys grumbling about "too much violence". And even then, it is usually only the excessively graphic or gory violence that gets hated on. When's the last time you ever heard anybody complaining about, say, WoW's violence? Right, hardly anybody. They don't really show much blood (except for certain spell effects), or body parts being removed, or innards becoming outards, etc. But when you examine the actual context on what goes on in WoW... you got murder, you got mass genocide, you got all sorts of things that violate the Geneva Convention IRL. Gassing, Torture, War Crimes, you name it, WoW has it and you can usually maintain a T rating as long as you don't graphically depict it, or go overboard with it.

But you dare show a lady's bare butt or breasts on the screen, that's an instant M rating and the game is slammed left and right by religious people.

What kinda twisted world do we live in, where it is more acceptable to kill/maim/torture people than it is to depict sexuality?

Eh, what exactly does that have to do with what I said, may I ask?

I didn't say anything about sexual victims. I said "depict sexuality". Depicting sexuality does not automatically make someone a victim. There is such a thing as consensual sex, despite what modern media likes to imply sometimes.

The point is that males can hardly complain about being depicted as objects of violent acts if they enjoy both the depiction of violent acts and their own depiction as agents of these acts.
Women, however, have every right to insist on not being depicted as mere objects of male desire if they do not wish to be depicted as such.
...
And now for the really retarded: you have no say in this as long as it is not you who is concerned.

Stereotyping is awesome, eh?

And who said I was complaining about violent acts? Nay, I was more commenting on how it is stupid that Violence is OK whereas Sexuality is not.

Eh, hate to break it to you buddy, but it is 100% possible to depict sexuality without making the women "objects of male desire". AND, furthermore, it isn't JUST the women complaining; there's men out there who complain about there being too much sex in media. And lastly, I don't even hear women complaining about violence much, they seem to just shrug it off for the most part, unless it is exceedingly graphic/gory.

This very much does concern me; game developers/storywriters/etc have to toe the line carefully when it comes to sex, but yet they can depict all sorts of heinous violence all day long. In the end, we the consumers are affected whenever developers/storywriters/producers have to step back and say "eh, I'd like to put this in, but if I do, it'll cause an M rating". That's content we don't get, because they're worrying about the rating.

Yeah I am very confused as to why Rinsui interpreted your post as being gender related. I'm not sure how to reply to that or what she/he is saying.

There is a lot of violence on TV/movies in general whether it be male-on-male, male-on-female, female-on-female,or female-on-male, or some kind of crazy variation. Hollywood sh*t is just violent in general. I should probably read up on why it's so acceptable vs. the still somewhat tense subject of sex in America. Then again channels like HBO do feature a lot of sexual material and movies are starting to.

But it's still crazy that a channel like AMC can have someone tear off a zombie's head with their bare hands and have the guts spill everywhere (it's not really a human anymore!) but you definitely couldn't show a bare buttcheek. Haha, it's so silly when you think about it.
