why can't NPC's change classes like we can depending on the situational need... I'll prefer to think he's not needed in his bard role at that point and it is a new job/class ^.~

Haha I was just kinda joking with my post but after seeing the replies to it, I think it would be cool if npcs could change their class and it wasn't just window dressing. Would make me feel like my fellow npc scions were growing with me. I guess we'll know once the patch hits. If Thancred fights with us and has a new duel wielding stance it could be a hint for a future class for us.

EDIT: Another thing I just thought of is if you started in Ul'Dah and have completed the quests where he fights with you, regardless of what he may say (idr if he calls himself a brd here or back in 1.0) his skill set is that of gladiator with him having the rage of halone combo. Could be his potential new job could hint at a second job branch for gladiator....but now I'm just grasping at straws.

Huh. Interesting. I started in Gridania so I never saw that. IIRC Thancred called himself a bard in a cutscene somewhere.

He did, but he's also been referred to as a "scholar" at one point. I wouldn't be surprised if he's neither of those jobs primarily, but something more combat based after all.

Someone already posted what I was saying missed it in first read through. I also saw Thancred with a dagger on each hip.

Anyone else notice that Thancred is dual wielding daggers in that first screenshot? Nin confirmed. Lol but for serial, these screenshots have got me crazy excited for the patch.

Just NPC flavor gear unfortunately. Thancred is a bard.

Really? I am almost certain I saw him using rage of halone in the first instance fight of the Ul'dah mainstory mission. When you fight the flying demon to save the sultana lala.. Wouldnt that make him a pld? Or is it true he can switch jobs at the drop of a gil ^^

Edit: my bad left page up for a while didnt notice it was already stated.. But yeah he uses rage of halone in a battle instance.

He's definitely a bard but due to there being no actual bard in the game (archer with songs doesn't count), much like the Bard Moogle from 1.x, they share skill set with another class. All of the NPCs are dual classes in order to make sure they nor you die in the instances they show up in.

You may stop putting the EQ clone version of a Bard on a pedestal anytime, Theonehio.

My first job on 11 was red mage, I love the red mage! But that would be the first red mage in known history to be dressed in blue Smiley: tongue Hehe

It looks like Yugiri is a Thief Viera preview of 3.0. Assuming thf, since is the only Job in the game we still haven't seen an NPC with. While Thf was introduced with the Moogle fight we haven't seen any more. She is definitely a Viera though. And I thought we were supposed to be getting hints on the expansion soon, and this screams expansion area.

As for Gilgimesh's pet being a chicken... here's to hoping that means we can win the Chicken Knife from him!!! II want the Bah-ghawks!!!

On a side note, they will most likely give out a fantasia when the Viera are introduced to allow existing players to change if they want.

I wouldn't bet on Viera. Their ears stick straight up.

Besides, how do we even know those are ears? It could be horns. Draenei confirmed for 2.2!

Well, considering how much you enjoy generic MMOs, I suppose I expected this kind of response out of you.

Again, haven't you ever heard of a lop-eared bunny? Smiley: tongue

I actually think the fact that her ears are down is an indication she's trying to hide her identity as... whatever race she actually is.

It will totally be a Vierra. No doubt about it.

Eh. Was never a huge fan of bangaa. If I had to pick an Ivalice race I'd rather have Viera or Gria.

They need to make Moogles a playable race. Outside of the Tactics games, I don't think there's been a playable Moogle character since VI.

There's certainly some charm in EverQuest. No wonder you think of it so fondly.

There are actually very good reasons for doing this. For one, players that don't play FFXIV right now would join because MOOGLES ARE AWESOME! Also, players that are very close to completing all of the available content would be happy to start over and do it all again, paying subs the entire time because MOOGLES ARE AWESOME. Oh wait, Fantasia right. Aww that's too bad.

I think the point I'm trying to make is MOOGLES ARE AWESOME!
