'Tripple the size of the zones' is a misnomer, and downright false.

Scaling wise the distances from one true end of the zone to the other is about the same. The difference is that in FFXI, the entrances were placed most often at polar opposites of zonelines where in FFXIV there are multiple interlaced entrances.

I illustrated another point about the maps in FFXI vs FFXIV in the official boards not long ago, to the effect that FFXIV Zones seem smaller because of the way they are outlayed. You literally cannot see more than a quarter of the zone at any given time maximum, where in FFXI, the zones were so wide open they had to write scripts for progressive rendering of the zones. (You could see a tree change shape and get more detailed as you approached it.)

East Sarutabaruta is not larger than Eastern Shroud. Shroud is just segmented where Saurtabaruta's one big block on the map.

Also, default run speed in FFXIV is faster as well, nobody seems to note that fact as part of the ease of travel notes.

There's also that Sprint skill that everybody starts the game with (which is awesome!).

Also, when comparing zones in XI to the zones in XIV, you have to take into account the massive waste of space in XI. Most zones have next to nothing in them in XI, while in XIV there is something tucked in every little nook and cranny.
#30DuoMaxwellxx, Posted: Feb 24 2014 at 7:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) actually ever nook and cranny in ffxi had something in it you just had to know it was there... for example that empty cave youve been a million times but thought there was nothing in it... happens to be an area where an NM spawns if yu showed up at the right time or is used for a job specific quest etc etc...

Hmmm, and to think the chat we had when I was helping you with the Toad quest you were having problems with ( I was 41 pld and you 42 pld). What happend to taking your time and enjoying things? Blowing smoke? Did it upset you that I was 45 when you hit 43 a few hours later after the encounter I helped you with?

On a side note be glad you quit before hitting 46, as the wall placed in front of you until you hit 49 is brutal.

The complete lack of quests at that point in the game. FATE and Dungeon grind is pretty much the only way to go from 47-50.

It may have been brutal back in 2.0, but I wouldn't call it that now. The daily content gets you over those two levels fast.

I really enjoy this game.

I enjoyed it enough that I bought both versions but I didn't stay very long.

Wish I had that money back lol, but it was worth it for a short time.

To be fair, when they laid out this plan they still intended you to traverse zones with higher level mobs. Mobs that would chase you to from one end of the zone to the other and back. Even if you could make it to the zone they still got a few licks in while you loaded. I recall at least a few occasions where I zoned with my fingers crossed, watched the screen go black and when it faded back in I was dead at the zone line.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.
