All of you agree with me that it's illegal because none of you would dare to contact a GM to tell them you are using it and ask if it's ok or not, that alone shows you know it's against the rules. Not one of you has done this even though it's a very simple thing to do.

Thats where i differ.

When it was just a log parser, I would contact a gm in a heart beat and ask him because i know full well log parsers are 100% legit programs and are used in every game. Any gm who bans someone for log parsing is a complete idiot and had no clue what a log parser is. I guarantee the developers used some kind of log parser to balance classes/fights. The gm you keep referencing was more upset that guy was lieing to his face about knowing what FFAPP was and if he was using it, youll notice the guy didnt actually get banned. The only reason the gm was called was because the guy was harassing a group member for being so low on dps, then lied to the gms face even though the gm had chat logs. Had there been no harassing comments about a player being low on dps, then no gm would have been called.

What drew the line for me was the radar. I know we can turn it off but as far as GMs are concerned its no different than the map radar in ffxi, and its built into the parser so at this point they cant tell if you are using the radar or not, they just know that if you use ffapp, you have access to a memory reading mapping radar. In ff11 its ban able because it lets you see where/when a NM last died. IN ff14 there's really no need for it to track those things since there are no over world NM, but its at the point now where it went from a legit program to parse logs to something that reads the memory to display stuff on the map that isnt usually available, which is why i personally dont use it anymore. It doesnt give any kind of unfair advantage to have the map, but its just come a step too far for me to be comfortable using it, thats all.

A GM doesn't make the final ban decision. What they can do is stick you in Mordion Gaul until someone above them has a chance to review the case of "to ban or not to ban" - again, because they are the CS representative.

All plugins have been removed from the release now. Except parser. If anyone wants one they can install it or any other plugin from any source as long as the developer of the plugin follows my release structure. If you already have it downloaded you can also uninstall it using the "update" tab.

Took awhile to get that feature in :)

I don't contact a GM to tell him that I'm leveling MRD. I don't contact a GM to tell him I'm crafting stuff to sell on the market. I don't contact a GM to tell him I'm sitting in DF for really long periods of time. There's a lot of things I don't contact a GM just to tell them I'm doing, and it's not because I'm afraid the GM is going to ban me. In fact, if I make a bunch of GM calls every time I wanted to tell someone about a legal activity I'm engaging in, I would probably get suspended over misuse of the GM call feature.

Why should players waste not only their time but also a GM's time just to try and win an Internet argument with you?

Lots are posting stating it's perfectly fine to use, yet none of them have the guts to stand by their words by contacting a GM and posting the chat log.

Ok, so the troll notwithstanding, let's get back to my problem. So I went ahead and downloaded this 7zip thing. Let me tell you, I had some serious problems with this program and the website. It kept trying to install other stuff on my computer. I finally got everything else removed and just 7zip installed. So I downloaded FFXIVAPP, but there was no option to extract everything with 7zip, just the normal way to extract it which you guys recommended against.

Now i admit, I am not the most computer savvy person in the world. If there's something I want to know how to do, I generally Google it, but with this I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to my problem. Anybody have any clue what I might have been doing wrong?

Even better, anybody got a link to where I can download 7zip from as that may have been part of the problem.

7zip shouldn't ever install anything else, that would be news to me. You should have a right click menu option for 7zip after its installed that then has an option to Extract from the archive.

I haven't had to download 7zip in a while, but I don't recall it having a bunch of other stuff that it tried to install as well. Did you get your download from http://www.7-zip.org/?

I'll check that link when I get home. I went ahead and deleted the app download and uninstalled 7zip, so I'll just start all over.

Edit: Also, no matter how loud I turned my volume, I couldn't hear the instructions in the Youtube video of how to install the app. After I download it and extract it using 7zip, what do I do?

Give Winrar a shot if 7zip doesn't work out for you. I've used 7zip before but not in a year or two so perhaps they've updated their startup to include some advertisements.

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Download one of the grahpic command line options at the top. If you're on a desktop, you're *probably* on 64 bit. Usually you can figure it out by running the DirectX diagnostic tool on Windows.

Start > Run > type in dxdiag > look at the "Operating System" section of the System tab.

If you do not see a Run command, you can find out how to enable it on Windows 7 here:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-run-command-on-windows-vista-start-menu/

IIRC, Windows 8's search box will work with dxdiag.

However, be very careful in the future when you install things. Many programs are trying to be very sneaky with what they put in their startup wizard. Mainly, trying to catch people who just spam the Next button. Usually, if you read everything very carefully, you can just click
