I get the feeling they went with the KISS method for loot.

I like the Need > Can Use > Greed idea. I also agree it DOES still have a flaw.

Maybe the option would be to make "Can Use" limited. Like, maybe you select a specific job to fill the "Can Use" slot, and then you have to rely on greed for the others?

Say, you're doing something endgame, and you're the tank. You also want to gear up a DPS, so you set your Lancer to be your "secondary" job. You also have Whm at 50.

The content you're working on drops a tank upgrade. Other people have set Paladin as their secondary job, but since you're the tank, you roll need and override it.

The next bit of content drops a great Whm headpiece, but Whm isn't your specified secondary job. But the Whm actually already has it, and no one else rolls need, so it goes into the "Secondary Role" lot. Unfortunately, someone does roll there, so you don't get a chance for it.

But on the next fight a solid Str dps piece drops. No one rolls need, so you have the chance to snap it up with Can Use. You might lose to someone else, but there's that chance.

I would make it so that these secondary rules were visible, and ONLY applied if everyone "accepted" them. Like, you each pick your secondary, and people accept or deny that loot list. Until there's a uniform list accepted by each member, it doesn't function.

This also means that people with multiple 50s can weigh their options when they see the list. Maybe you see that two people are setting their secondary as Dragoon, so you rather switch yours to Bard, where there's no competition. Or you all just accept the higher competition in order to have a chance for the gear you'd like.

And it also means that you can't just have upgraded rolls on everything, just because you've hit 50 with everything. Sounds like a win-win, to me.

That said, I'm 100% in agreement that you should be able to trade items for a time period after you win a roll, like in WoW. Particularly because there ARE cases where you roll accidentally, or didn't notice a bit of info when you rolled.

I greed everything because even if I can't wear it, I can convert it to GC points. Smiley: frown So in that sense, I can use it. Even if I don't have a job that can equip it.

Although if someone explicitly asks for a drop, I'll just pass it. You can't account for jerks in every use case scenario.

That's what I do too, pretty much.

How about just having your highest job level that can use the item added to your Greed roll?
