Not sure I agree here.

A queue is essentially a line of players waiting for content. Instances which are already in progress should have priority because those players were already in line once. Most any other MMO runs this way and I think players accept it because it's the sensible and courteous way to run it. If there is a group in-progress and you would fill the role they need when you queue up, you should be placed in their group.

Using TERA as an example, you don't have the choice of which type of group you get but they do provide you a bonus reward at the end for coming to a struggling group's rescue. I always thought that it would be a nice touch if your reward at the end for joining in-progress groups was a random piece of gear for your class from one of the bosses you missed. I think the only problem I came up with that people would have(aside from not having an option anymore if they got used to it) would be if you needed a specific boss for quest progression or gear.

I don't think it would really impact XIV that much because gear is irrelevant until later in the game, but in TERA you run dungeons several times and the quests are repeatable anyway. With dungeons now being a viable source of exp, I think they'll be getting more traffic anyway.

It's a popular activity for a DPS, which is why the wait is 30 minutes for a lone DPS and about 30 seconds for a trio that already has a white mage and a paladin in it.

That's actually pretty stupid of them... they could have just made it so you can queue for ONLY in-progress that way you don't have to decline ones that are not in progress... that would have fixed the issue and everyone would have been happy... that way people who wanted to run it from the beginning could do so without people leaving the queue so much, and people who are trying to get in for the 2nd half only can do so without having to leave and re-queue when it's not in progress.


It's amazing how people keep bringing that up as if it was a valid solution on its own. It's not. If you make Join in Progress ONLY Join in Progress in the current situation, it screws over the people who just want to get in, partial or not, like me. Even Withdrawal spam penalties would work better because it doesn't intentionally penalize an entire subset of people that aren't causing the problem. They would need to do a bit more work and include options for both Join in Progress and a fresh start for selection. Once they do that, THEN making Join in Progress only Join in Progress would be valid.

I copy/paste, and then forget to edit the copy, all the time. At least my mistakes don't go international.
