Pet Hotbar (Simple?) QuestionFollow

I've been leveling arcanist/scholar/summoner in my free time over the last few weeks and there's something I haven't been able to figure out. I'm getting to the point where I have more abilities/spells than can be fit into one hotbar. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, as it's easy enough to start a new hot bar that I can load up with new abilities. While this works fine when I don't have a pet out, as soon as I summon I no longer can get to that second hot bar - all I can get to is my pet hotbar when I hit R1/L1. I can't figure out how to fix it and my FC couldn't help me figure it out either.

It's like this:
With no pet, I've got hotbar1, and if I hit R1 or L1 I can get to hotbar2 (or 3, 4, etc if I activate them).
With my pet, I've got hotbar 1, and if I hit R1 or L1 it takes me to the pet hotbar, then back to hotbar1, and so on. Frustrating!

I'm on PS3 so I'm using the controller/crossbar setup. I really need to figure this out, so if anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated.

Hitting R1 just switches to the next hotbar, I believe. But if you have a pet out, it just takes you to the pet bar. I'm on PC but I use a controller. To switch to hotbar with a pet out, you have to hit R1 + Circle. That should take you to your 2nd hotbar.

If you hold down R1, it should show you the face buttons of your gamepad with numbers next to each button. Those numbers represent your hotbars. Hope that helps.

Edit: I should say that the pet bar shows on every hotbar for the controller, so to see your hotbar 2 you'd have to hit R1 again to get out and see your normal hotbars.

I have turned my pet hotbar off in the options menu. The default pet hotbar cannot be customized - you can't rearrange it or add any abilities to it so I found it more confusing than necessary. I also play on the PS3 and found that if I need to switch hotbars I would rather just always hold R1 and change to the hotbar I need as opposed to clicking R1 and trying to determine whether it will hit my pet hotbar or cycle where I wanted it to go. It takes a bit of re-training to not use R1 as a toggle, but this is what works for me and also gives the most control over which abilities are easily accessible.

TL;DR - The pet hotbar can be turned off.

It totally sucks.

One solution is to put job common stuff (like sprint, calling and dismissing chocobo, etc) on the new hotbar 8 (which is the one where you press a combination of L2 + R2 or R2 + L2).

Otherwise when I get stuck like that and the pet hotbar blocks all other hotbars in the L1 or R1 rotation, you have to hold L1 or R1 and you will see a little set of directional pad icons come up. So essentially, cycle through those by pressing R1+square, R1+Triangle, R1+X, etc until you find the one you want.

Thanks for the help, folks... I didn't think about the whole holding down R1 and pressing a face button to switch thing. That'll work great!
