i.e in the past (pre 2.1) if i made a hotbar setup for lets say PUG, then change to MNK and setup hotbar hen changed to CNJ and setup hotbar.... as i switched between jobs only the stuff from each jobs hotbar was here... i,e going PUG gave me my pug hotbar and ONLY my pug hotbar going on MNK gave me my mnk hotbar and ONLY my mnk hotbar etc etc... now however,... Im on ARC right now and as I go though hotbar sets I see from from my brd under my ARC (like songs that arc cant use anyway).. now as I switch on PUG, ARC and MNK and go to hotbar set * its showing the Set * stuff that I have set for brd... which is pointless because mnk (or pug) sings songs). when did hotbars start being shared cross job/class and can it be permanently fixed?
1 through 3 are job dependant.
4 through 9 are fixed and dont change if you change jobs.

If you gain a level that also grants you a skill, like a song, or action... Also if you acquire a skill from a job quest... the new action is inserted into a blank space on the HOT BAR. Even if its in your "Monk" set up. If you have a blank spot, there is a possibility that the new skill will be placed there automatically by the computer.
Its annoying but its easy to remove, so no big deal.

There's a setting you can change to opt not to share any of them. I only share #3 which has all my gear sets, and #8 which has all my transportation.

This is the default, but it can be changed here:
The ones you select as shared will continue to show up on other jobs.
Non-shared bars will empty when you change to a new job.

My setup:
#6 - most used classes/jobs; DoW/DoM on left, DoH/DoL on right
#7 - minions
#8 I left as the PS3 default (main game commands, Teleport/Return, etc.)
I'm considering putting mounts and companion commands on #5 and sharing that one as well.

Good info, set up some extra hotbars on WAR last night and was a little perturbed when they were visible on other jobs. I'm sure I would have figured it out eventually but now i'll sort it out first thing when I logon tonight.

You may want to take a screen shot of your hotbars before you start making those changes. When you change a hotbar from shared to not-shared, I think the game deletes the existing assignments for that hotbar. It makes sense if you go from not-shared to shared (since you are essentially taking multiple assignments for the same hotbar and reducing it to one). It doesn't make sense for the game to do so when you go from not-shared to shared. But IIRC from my experience, it still happens.
Either way, better safe than sorry.
