It's not as huge as you seem to be making it out to be. ilvl70 accessories are not all magically dead. Some of those ilvl70 accessories were, and some still are, better than ilvl90 counterparts. Take Gryphonskin Wristbands or Ring for Bard as an example. In 95% of all sensible situations I'd use them over allagan. Even now with the new primal accessories, I'll still be using my Gryphonskin Wristbands at the very least until I eventually get the drop from Ifrit Extreme.
And just to really point out the problem of the crux of what you're saying: People don't go instantly from artifact to BiS gear. Crafted ilvl70 gear, especially accessories, is a great way to fill the gap.
No, they don't but they do get enough ToP from 1 duty roulette story dungeon to get an accessory. And in what world would you prefer Gryphonskin over Allagan!?
13 Dex > 9 Dex
You should never sacrifice main stat for some secondary stats. Here, I'll do some actual numbers for you:
I'm Bard, avg ilvl 77
456 Dex
Allagan Band: +1.15% DPS increase
Grypohnskin HQ (about 350k plus meld prices): -+.28% DPS increase, using the previously suggested optimal melds:
Quote:
optimal meld (debatable) 10 vit - 9 crit - 9 sks
This is in comparison to my current darklight band. Grpyonskin HQ costs 350k on my server, plus the cost of failing melds. Of course, since I don't even have an allagan band yet, I'm not suggesting it's easy to get, but Darklight is and miniscule increase in dmg is not worth the cost (arguable I guess. You could have billions of gil, I only have 1 mil which would only get me 2 or 3 of these pieces). The only reason to use gryphonskin is so you can feel like a delicate snowflake unlike all the sheep who use the easily attainable and very cheap Darklight Gear.
Seriously, punch in your own numbers or be lazy and just tell me I'm wrong.
