We're pretty far away from affording anything. We're a small FC, only 23 members total... we're all active, but none of us have time to live in the game, and there are only 23 of us... I'd say only 15 of us are highly active, too.

The materia price has nothing to do with housing. It's now easier to get level IV materia due to the changes in the update. Also, the crystal tower access quest gives you two pieces of level IV materia for next to no effort.
I'm talking about tier III materia that aren't rewards for these quests. All materia prices seems to be dropping, because converting materia was one of the better ways to make money... and now many more people are saving all their gil for housing, rather than spending in the market.
I'm not trying to complain, I'm just curious about whether developers will take "corrective measures" to make sure housing remains accessible. The deterioration of housing prices over time was implemented in large part to make housing reasonably attainable for groups willing to put in the time to save up... but if prices only decline up to 50 percent over three months, I could easily see deflation being even more severe during that time... meaning housing may be easier to buy now more than ever... which isn't what SE intended.
