I discovered this morning that I am slightly behind the levelling curve. I'm at the point in the main quest where I have to gain the trust of the Resistance in Little Ala Mhigo and I got sent to some place in The Shroud to talk to people. Well, I completed one of the quests, and the next one was red for me until I gained another level. Up to that point, I was doing pretty good about being a couple levels above the level of the main quest, but since they've started sending me outside of Thanalan, I'm falling behind because I'm not doing any of the side quests in either The Shroud or La Noesca because I'm saving those to help with levelling alternate classes.

I guess I'll just have to do a couple extra runs of whatever the next dungeon is.

I took the same approach with quests when I leveled BLM, only doing quests around Thanalan. I did occasional repeats of dungeons and FATEs as they crossed my path. I didn't really run into issues with quests drying up until I got to Coerthas in the early 30s. When you get there, you'll find that you have to do those quests and will still need to do a bunch of FATEs and/or re-run dungeons to continue the story line. And that will happen several more times from there to level 50 (level 46 to 49 in particular is a big gap with the story line missions).

What level are ya now? 22?

Have you joined an actual fate party at Quarrymill? That is in South Shroud. Give it a shot. Just /shout "(Fate) (Party) (Can I have it?)".

Because of the way FATE participation is handed out, being in a party is immensely beneficial, especially to a tank class. You should go from 1500 EXP per fate solo to somewhere closer to 5k at that level.

Try out the FATE party for about an hour to see how your EXP gain looks. The fates pop randomly, sometimes there is a lull. Over the course of an hour you will see why 95% of the players huddle in this zone from 22 to 35.

When this gets boring queue for Halatali or Toto-Rak in the Duty Finder. Doing a variety of activities is what keeps the leveling process form getting to repetitive. Whether in a dungeon or a FATE, leveling with a party is way more fun. :)

I'm dinged level 27 this morning before work. I haven't done a FATE party yet because up to this point I was already ahead of the main quest in levels. Now that I've fallen behind a bit, I may have to try this. I skipped Halatali, but I did a run of Toto-Rak with my FC last night. God that place was annoying. One of my FC members said "Manor" is the next dungeon and it's pretty fun, so I might do an extra run of that.

The next thing I need to figure out is how macros work in this game.

Huakke Manor is indeed one of the more fun dungeons, I'd recommend The Sunken Temple of Qu'arn too. The first monster is a ***** to pass so it makes for a good learning experience, plus you have to position mobs to get through the dungeon as you progress. The Temple (like Halitali) is outside the main story line so you'll need to look for the sidequest.

I'm levelling Arcanist at the moment and I've taken to looking for FATEs that are out of the way and completing them myself (or with the one or two other people that show). The best and worst thing about FATEs are the XP is easy, but you get next to zero chance to learn job mechanics in a zerg party.

I think the quest for both Halitali and Temple are handed out in Vesper Bay.

Yes, Halatali was in Vesper Bay. I got the quest but then levelled past Halatali without completing it and somehow the quest disappeared from my journal.

I plan on doing any quests outside of The Shroud and La Noesca zones as I get to them on my main class/job, so that Coerthas place I will do the quests there. When I get to 30, I'll have to stop and level CNJ to at least 15 so I can unlock the PLD job. I'm not sure if I'm going to only go to 15 or if I'll level any other classes at that point or wait until PLD is 50. I think I'm going to wait until 50 to start putting seriosu effort into my DoH and DoL classes.

You might have unlocked the dungeon via the quest but not actually run it. In that case, it will appear in the Duty Finder as an option and you can run it there.

Halitali is fun. Aggro control from adds really starts to become important on boss fights.
