Data UsageFollow

So I tethered my phone to my laptop today to play some XIV while at work (I work nights and have a lot of time). I was interested to see that after 45 minutes of dinking around, killing stuff, and being rather random I only transmitted 6MB out to the servers and received 5MB. That includes zoning from Ul'dah to West Thanny, doing some killing, and some mining.

That's rather small. I didn't see any FATEs in my area so I didn't see what that does to my data usage but I'll give it a try and see what I find. Overall this game is extremely tether friendly from what I can tell. I can only imagine that instances uses less data.

Ya, I often check how much I've used with my ISP. Full days of gaming on XIV is negligible when compared to streaming and other activities, it barely makes a dent in the usage.

They seemed to approach XIV with the same attitude they did XI - that it should be able to run on dial-up. ARR is very good about sipping data. The S/R numbers are "sending and receiving" and they're measured in bytes. So even if you're in the middle of a FATE and your S/R has soured up to 5000, you're still only passing 5K data a second at most.

@Catwho, I haven't found the S/R numbers in this game. Where on the UI are they located? It's probably somewhere obvious and I just haven't noticed.

If you hover your mouse over the wireless signal icon in the upper left hand corner. Mine just now was Sending 0 Recieving 45. 45 bytes of data a second to look out of the ocean at Costa del Sol is not bad at all.

Data hog ;) Anyway, cool, I didn't know that! Then again I just found out if you click the LT icon next to the clock it changes to Server Time and Eorzean Time. Didn't know that either :D
