this is just a suggestion, and if its already in place but i just havent noticed i appologize, but can we get a sticky at the top with a post regarding all the relevant links to the different topics discussd here?

such as this guys links for crafting, boss strategies etc?

i'm not sure why but i find getting information in this game is pretty hard as theres no one place all of this is consolidated. At least from what ive seen. A lot of "guides" are poorly done or not even finished and maybe forgotten.

I found this pretty useful for getting everything to 15 (possibly 20 as well):

http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1mgap5/tips_and_tricks_for_crafting/

And then there's this for calculating mats.

http://craftingasaservice.com/crafting

This is nice for knowing where the triples are and how much they require:

http://www.gameskinny.com/4rc10/ffxiv-leveling-craftingtradecrafts-with-repeatable-leves-guide

Though in the end, I always revert back to the post Hairspray linked. Really good information.

I've tried consolidating a lot of links into my sticky, but the dynamic nature of the information makes it really hard to keep up with.

Since you can see all of your recipes for your level, having a guide isn't really needed :) Besides Weaver and Leatherworker which I leveled in 1.0, I leveled all my other crafts to 50 without using crafting guides. (Though I did use xivdb.com to look up locations for materials. A lot of mats can be purchased for cheap from NPCs)

Without using leves, the focus should be on anything with the least amount of materials; -or- multi-step recipes (just as an example -- making an ingot to turn into a plate) or something that you can get a lot of quality on. Higher quality = more xp

But really, crafting is super easy and extremely fast if you use leves. You probably don't need to use leves until at least 15 to 20 as those levels go pretty fast on their own. If you use leves, I would suggest checking out Gamerscape. It appears to be recently updated and even categorized by each craft via the tabs at the top.

The majority of my leveling consisted of grinding on certain mats that led up to making a particular recipe for a leve. Try to HQ as much as possible because that's where all the awesome XP comes from :) 200% bonus when turning in 100% HQ.

You can also use lower level leves to coast across levels where the recipes kinda suck. (I did a level 30-35 leve all the way up to 45 for goldsmithing) shhh don't tell anyone >_>

All of my 2.0 crafts I did over the course of 3-4 days per craft using this method. I would bank my leves until I had close to max and then just go to town. :)

Leves really are an express train to 50. I did Culinarian from 1 to 10 making random things and then I went from 10 to 50 on leves without ever actually crafting a single thing for about 160k net in about 2-3 hours max. I say net because leves give you gil for turn ins, some of the turn ins were actually net positive gil the HQ version on the AH was so cheaply undercut, minus the cost of 1 leve use of course.

Near the end there if you are turning in triples you're getting between 100 and 300k xp a turn in. Really takes no time at all to hit 50 with those numbers.

Could you have done it on the cheap farming items yourself, and "crafting", sure I guess. But an hour or two spent grinding WP for myth tomes with the resulting side bonus being philo tokens, which can buy mats people pay about 20k for now is just as good. Anyway long ramble short you don't actually have to craft to be a crafter. There are many roads that lead to the same place.

That's what I was thinking too.

I was buying materials and trying to HQ it manually but it was pretty slow. Leveled botanist alongside it...but quickly realized I could just make the money back by running WP to fill in what I had lost.

Problem is: I haven't seen many of the HQ turn ins I need on the market. Least for CRP.

Anything like a materia guide:
like this one:
http://www.ffxivguild.com/ffxiv-a-realm-reborn-materia-guide/

Or does that one pretty much say it all....

That's the guide I always give when someone asks about materia, it's pretty comprehensive.

The only thing I might add to it is that it is possible to wear crafting gear while killing exp mobs to spiritbond them...

Many people will wear the crafting jewelry to turn into materia this way, or even the random other piece of gear.

This admittedly does happen and oddly enough I'm just messing around with CRP on my server and I've seen the same thing re: HQ turn ins on the AH.

In cases like this I turn to acquaintances who are high level crafting enthusiasts to make stuff for me using mats I provide.

This is the system my buddy and I run. I provide his CRP HQ items, he provides my CUL HQ items. We'll get all classes up in no time!
