Since you can see all of your recipes for your level, having a guide isn't really needed :) Besides Weaver and Leatherworker which I leveled in 1.0, I leveled all my other crafts to 50 without using crafting guides. (Though I did use xivdb.com to look up locations for materials. A lot of mats can be purchased for cheap from NPCs)
Without using leves, the focus should be on anything with the least amount of materials; -or- multi-step recipes (just as an example -- making an ingot to turn into a plate) or something that you can get a lot of quality on. Higher quality = more xp
But really, crafting is super easy and extremely fast if you use leves. You probably don't need to use leves until at least 15 to 20 as those levels go pretty fast on their own. If you use leves, I would suggest checking out
Gamerscape. It appears to be recently updated and even categorized by each craft via the tabs at the top.
The majority of my leveling consisted of grinding on certain mats that led up to making a particular recipe for a leve. Try to HQ as much as possible because that's where all the awesome XP comes from :) 200% bonus when turning in 100% HQ.
You can also use lower level leves to coast across levels where the recipes kinda suck. (I did a level 30-35 leve all the way up to 45 for goldsmithing) shhh don't tell anyone >_>
All of my 2.0 crafts I did over the course of 3-4 days per craft using this method. I would bank my leves until I had close to max and then just go to town. :)
