Is there a "trick" to Garuda?Follow

Or should I just stop queueing up for it in the Duty Finder and make a group?

I could not figure out how to get past Story Mode Garuda... we always wiped at the same point, about halfway through her healthbar she'll go to the middle and do some super strong wind move that wipes the whole group... it's really annoying... is there something I'm not getting or did my groups just suck?

On a side note, if any ZAM FC members want to help me win this I would be extremely grateful. Smiley: grin

Honestly, I was 1/16 (DF Groups) on this fight, it was depressing. You absolutely must keep as many columns intact as possible to mitigate as much damage as you can when you move to phase two of the fight. If not, even with the Tank Limit Break, Garuda will one shot you.

In other words, get those plumes as fast as you can, make sure your BRD or BLM know to AOE them as soon as the pop. Get that right and it's easy, making a DF group understand that is quite the battle though...

Thats really it, the damage is dependant on the number of rocks left. This is similar to titans heart/ifirits nails. It is basically a dps check. If you dont kill plumes fast enough her move at 50% kills you.

There are 4 pillars, each pillar is 3 rocks, so you start with 12, and by 50% you need at least 6 or more rocks left if you want to survive. Ideally you want 8.

Okay cool, AoE damage, check... As a 46 DRG what can I do to help knock these out faster?

you can check my gear by looking at the link in my signature for Meat Mithkabob.

-nevermind, SE decided to change it to my Carpenter gear after all...

Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Edit: Just realized that I got a new skill at 46 "Ring of Thorns" for AoE, and I had only run this fight at level 45... maybe that will help. Smiley: grin

The big secret to a normal run would be to have everyone pop their AoE move the second the adds spawn at garuda, this way most adds will be almost dead without ever touching the stones. This goes for the tanks also (Circle of scorn for PLD, the wrath move for WAR).

Second tip is to not stand close to the pillars when Garuda moves to do a damage move, as long as you have a pillar between you and her, it wont damage you, but if you stand on top of it, the ranged attack she sends out straight after can hit the pillar and knock off a stone. Because of this you want to have some distance from the stones at all times.

As for speedruns (and youll do a lot of those once you're geared with relic), the most efficient way of killing her is the exact opposite. If you have enough dps, it's possible to have everyone only attack garuda, and ger her low enough to use Aerial Blast (special big move) before adds have enough time to do much dmg to the pillars. This is how people kill her in 4 min etc.

As for every other fight in the game, practice makes perfect, just do her enough time, and eventually you'll be able to predict her every move down to the second, just keep going at it, GL!

Cool, thanks. I'm assuming every job except paladin has an AoE of some sort at level 46?

On DRG, I rotate Heavy Thrust >> Ring of Thorns >> Heavy Thrust >> Ring of Thorns >> etc on the plumes to make sure I get the combo bonus damage each time. It also helps on TP consumption.

Is there a way to make sure you are flanking those?

I didn't know which way they were facing tbh.

Any enemy you have target has a colored ring on the ground. That ring has an arrow that designates what direction the mob is facing.

Take a look at this picture

If you look at the red circle on the ground below Garuda, you see an arrow (it kind of looks like a nub I guess) pointing at the tank to the right. All mobs have this, though some are smaller than others, such as the lights in AK. Just make sure you are to the left or right of the arrow and the combo will proc.

Wow, how did I not know this? Thanks for being patient with me and actually answering my questions... This is why I love ZAM!

No matter how stupid the question, it will more than likely get answered... and I have a crap-ton of stupid questions, let me tell you.

Someone mentioned the tank should use Circle of scorn on the mobs but its a level 50 move and cant be used in normal mode.

Other than the advice given, remember in the second phase of the fight when you are fighting in the smaller area that when Garuda flies out to the edge of the stage you need to run to the opposite side as far away as you can to avoid taking huge damage/instant death. She also uses that same move that destroys the rocks in the first parts of the fight, but this time there is no real warning other than seeing her power up to use it, so dont stand infront of her when you see this.

Also take not when Garuda turns to attack other players in the earlier part of the fight, if the player is standing near the rocks it will damage them as well. So stand to the left or right side of them, not right near the rocks.

Heres a useful vid- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsD7oPPlqKs

Good old story mode Garuda, the only primal that's more difficult in the story compared to it's HM version.

I certainly didn't think so. HM has tons more plumes in phase 1, has the 2 adds in phase 2 that need to be burned ASAP and kept apart, has the tornadoes to avoid, and then they rotate and have to run around the whole arena, have to kill satin plumes, etc. There's way more mechanics in HM than normal and personally I'd say it's a more difficult fight overall, as you need to get 8 people who all understand it as opposed to just 4.

Isn't this the part where everyone runs out of the middle, so her big AE doesn't hurt as bad?

I'm 5 of 9 (roughly) on this fight so far. The real thing, for me, that makes or breaks this instance is offtank keeping red mob occupied as green is burned down.

Feathers shouldn't ever be an issue with at least one bard and blm in the group. And honestly I was in a party with 3 dragoons (including myself) and we burned feathers down pretty well.

It's about keeping red away from DPS while focused on green.

Crap. Just realized this is story mode. Too much wine...

I blame Shinda

Don't put it all on the off tank though, I have had about even instances of DPS getting excited and accidently firing off a shot or two on red first.

Another thing a lot of people seem to not know is when she pops in the center and calls down the feathers, if your PT has decent DPS you can just ignore those feathers and DPS her down. If some one says ignore those adds though and one or two DPS don't listen then it can cause issues. Otherwise, she kills them for you.

No I agree on both accounts. The feathers in particular. That last salvo should be completely ignored if everyone did their jobs up to that point.

Edit* lol at Perrin

She does two of those wind attacks (i forget the name) after she two hours, they're the same ones that you can use the stones for protection for earlier in the fight. Note the way she's pointing when she does this, don't stand in front of her. The second time she does this she'll go to the side of the area. The half of the middle circle closest to her will take damage, the half of the circle further away from her won't take damage. That's all there is to it, just takes a bit pf practice, plus knowing how it works helps. Smiley: smile

Honestly watch videos on youtube it is a great way to learn the fights. I usually watch several for each fight or dungeon.
It also helps to be at cap for the fights.

I agree, I actually did watch a few videos before asking here... but my groups kept dying when Garuda used Arial Blast before going into phase 2... which is kind of why I asked here.

Either way I am past it now thanks to my AWESOME FREE COMPANY!!!
