So I finally got my relic today and this Lv. 49 trial suddenly appeared at the same time I unlocked bahamut's coil. I've never done this trial before and have never even seen/heard of it. I looked it up and it says its part of the storyline.... I'm confused; can anyone explain? I've been lvl 50 since like the 2nd week.
That's kinda odd. You have to be done with the main storyline before you can start your relics and stuff. And you already have that and Bahamut's Coil too.
It is infact a storyline dungeon/fight. But it can be redone from the duty finder. Maybe what you saw was simply the thing showing up on the "recommendations" on the duty finder. I still see it myself, while the actual quest has long since been done.

Nay; I've never done this fight before. It just magically appeared in DF between easy and HM primals. I've been running these primals like crazy so I would have certainly noticed it before. Perhaps the quest was broken for a while and people who levelled through there at the time just skipped it. My best guess at least. I just don't get why it waited until now to appear.

It is a trial and that is where it is located in DF, not sure why you havent seen/done it as it is a requirement to unlock the last 2 dungeons.

If I were to guess. Someone comes here claiming to have just gotten Cape Westwind unlocked when they're doing Coil....so people are calling him a liar by downranking his karma instead of outright saying it?

It's literally impossible that you could have missed the fight. I think you just missed it in your DF list until now.

It's where you fight the Roegadyn with the magitek armour that has a shield (plus a cannon) on each arm - does that ring any bells? The instance is just that fight, so it's literally 10 mins in and out.

because passive aggressiveness at its best. anyone bother to consider that maybe there's a bug? I mean, I doubt it. more likely he was stoned or something and forgot he did the mission. **** idk, i got nothing.

That's what happened though. You missed it. You have done the fight before and you used duty finder to enter it.

Or grouped with someone else who queued him in.
It's impossible to have never done the fight AND have proceeded with the story after it.

Trying to deny you were oblivious about it entering into the bottom section of the Duty Finder list doesn't make everyone telling you that you already went to the fight and completed it any wrong. Secondly, that AK for GC weapon change? Yeah, that was of last week (or the week before).
You've needed to continue the story by completing Cape Westwind since the beginning and that hasn't changed. Then you have the two 8 man dungeons, then Coil unlocks after you defeat all three HM Primals. That's how it goes and it's never changed. Trying to ignore everyone telling you you're wrong doesn't make you right.
Deal with it.
Was just trying to see if anyone else encountered this. I have no way to prove it but I'm certainly not lying to you and my memory is certainly not off. Suppose I did do cape westwend and forgot about it; that doesn't explain it never being in my duty finder list until after I completed the HM Primal quest. Clearly there was a glitch somewhere; I figured I wasn't the only one. If I am; foget about it. Doesn't matter anyway. It was just a curious anomaly to me.
