Regarding Actions Towards In Game RMT and Cheats (Oct. 31) Follow

In the countermeasures taken above, are including players who produced gils and items through cheats. We are being very cautious when developing the game so cheats will not happen, but if an issue like this occurs, we please ask to not take advantage of it, and instead go through the in-game “Main Menu” -> “Support Desk” -> “Contact Us” -> “Report Cheating” to let us know.

If we continue to see RMT and cheats happening, we will be taking serious actions towards it, so please take extreme caution and not affiliate with any illegal actions that are against the terms and agreement.

I think the important takeaway here is, if you see the RMT farmers doing something and you piggy back off their successes or manipulate the markets on whatever they're selling ect, that you may be considered an accessory and banned as well. At least thats how I read it when I see them say "Be very careful" and how to report anything suspicious right away.

We saw some of the effects when legitimate crafters sold their goods for high prices, ended up getting too much money from the sales, and had their gil reduced by 90% as a result.

The crafters didn't do anything wrong... aside from listing their items for way more gil than should have been theoretically available in a new server's economy. Gil buyers purchased the items. The gil sellers and the gil buyers set up the conditions for the legitimate crafters to be affected.

Now that we have some market history up on the boards it's less likely that someone will ask for item amounts that are much more than the market can bear, but if you're the first one listing any given item, think hard about how much gil a legit high end player is going to have on hand and price accordingly.

At roughly 29 dollars a copy:
Thats 200k SE made from gil buyers/sellers who had to buy the game just to be banned in a month. The conspiracy theorist in me says this is why SE is taking so long to add /right click blist, spam filters, shout limitations etc. If you are making 200k a month off these very people, let them go for 3-4 (launch till 2.1) months then add counter measures so you have effectively made 6-800k, and recuperated a decent portion of your initial investment.

I don't believe those RMT advertisers were from accounts owned legitimately by RMT, nor would credit card fraud even be required. I believe they are mostly from suckers who paid to have their account power leveled, or accounts that were compromised by people who belonged to now defunct FFXIV fan sites who sold their account lists to RMT (plenty of people use their same account and password everywhere on the internet). There are a lot of bot programs and other "free" software for FFXIV users out there too, any of which could be keylogging its victim's username and password. There may even be some old Buddy Pass codes they've collected over the years they're still burning through. Basically, there are still plenty of ways they are playing for free.

A very good point; I also heard that most of those who got "hacked" are former customers of RMT traders, who were
tricked into installing some "transaction security features", provide their account data, or directly bought a high-level
character from a RMT site... only to find that same character miraculously stripped of all its belongings a few days later.

When it comes to RMT, lots of the RMT on games are not RMT. They are Korean or from other countries running frauds on players. Real RMT do not bother players are do shouts or tells what so ever. IGE is the only real RMT group for all games and they pay into the games. SE actually started and owned IGE in late 90’s.

It still maybe owned by them now. They are still farming and paying into the games. Inflation in any MMORPG is from American and other players taking advantage of goods that heavily wanted. They jack up the prices two or three times more than it is worth. This games Economy seems under control. Items are not selling 100 times more than their worth.

A very clever move to ban all the RMT accounts.
Economically speaking.

As the RMTcompanies will buy new accounts to keep doing it.

I hope SE keeps banning, nothing is as annoying as seeing the chat made useless by the RMT spam..

I definitely agree that RMT accounts should be banned, but let's not kid ourselves. The majority of accounts used for this type of thing do not represent a retail sale of the game.. they represent some poor guy getting his account stolen and then used for evil.

I dont think the majority of them are from hacked accounts.. Most of the user names are rkiortgjeriojgiooe or something like that....

Anyway a perm ban is worthless they just set up new accounts... I do hope they find a way to stop them..

What I dont get is why they have to spam every couple of seconds.. They just anger people doing that...

Hacking into an account when you have few details is, though.

When one of these players goes to buy gil, are they giving them their account info? I don't see why you would need to give them anything related to your account. Maybe your in-game name. So how exactly are they hacking into these accounts?

Keyloggers. Hide them in the website...hide it in a confirmation e-mail...whereever. Bonus points if you're a site that requires login credentials. People tend to use one e-mail for everything. Bam, there's your SE account ID right there. It's kind of freaky how easily they can ***** you. Hell, you don't even have to SHOP on their site. I haven't read it happening in FFXIV yet, but who here remembers FFXI Atlas? Sites related to the game get hacked just to plop a keylogger into your system.

Rule of the thumb; always make sure you're running a clean system. Always.

Powerleveling services. Just yesterday I had a shout spammer offer powerleveling a character through all the content,
and I guess at some point he will ask for "temporary access" to the account for "efficiency reasons".

Yes, some people are that stupid.

Most of the accounts that PST me are either jibberish names or Goldceo Somebody. It seemed like more hacked accounts earlier on, but you can tell these characters all look the same, and they all look creepy when they shout.
