Help with FFXIV APP PLEASEEFollow

#1 Oct 19 2013 at 4:25 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

For some reason its not picking up the party or picking up anything other then the chat. I'm not sure how to fix it. I've uninstalled and re. Ran as admin. Etc. Its not picking up the DPS or anything that has to do with actions.

*Update (It will pick up the tank's DPS and rarely any other)

Do you have at least one chat window with EVERYTHING turned on?

On Windows 8, my fiancee could never get the FFXIV app to do... well anything. None of the crystals are options at the top, and she couldn't get it to load her character data. You can't even type in the field to enter anything to locate the character. Since there were no help files or any info on what to do, I just didn't bother beyond trying to play in a few areas before just telling her to live without it for now.

I run it just fine on Windows 8. The important parts are:

Install Microsoft .NET 4.5

Unzip the program using anything other than the built in Windows utility, I prefer 7 Zip myself.

Run the client executable as Administrator. You can right click on it, select Properties, select the Compatibility tab, check the box in the Settings group for "Run this program as an administrator".

I have a brand new install of Windows 8.1 with the default settings and using these steps I'm able to run this just fine.

Did that first before anything else.

This one is where I go bwuah? What does the base utility do to the file that another program does not?

It has an issue with some of the binaries that are included in the zip file and won't unzip them.

It would be nice if we could create an MSI installer but code obfuscators are not cheap and Icehunter would have to pay for it out of his own pocket.

Alright, I'll give it another go tonight. She's been chomping at the bit to have a parser so she can see if she's doing well. I'm betting it's the fact she used the windows unzip that's creating the issue.

Also make sure you have at least one chat window with every single filter turned off (so everything shows up in the window).

Yea, I think that wasn't ever the issue. The program itself looked broken. It didn't look like any of the screenshots I saw, it definitely looked like something was missing. Likely the binaries never uncompressed, leaving it gutted and just a pretty window. I'll post after we get setup tonight if there's any other issues.

It works perfectly, it's not unstable. You need to follow the directions to use it. I don't know how to make it more clear.

Sorry I didn't get back to you on this, just had time today to get it set up. I haven't tested it yet (fiancee not at home and was doing this via remote, long story), but this time after using the 7-Zip, the Plug-in tab and the Lodestone character loading both worked. Likely that's the issue right there. I'll have her run it tonight and see what kind of job it does actually parsing.
