Watching enemy cast bars as a healerFollow

#1 Oct 17 2013 at 7:29 PM Rating: Good
I am just wondering if anyone has any good strategies as a healer to watch enemy cast bars? While playing a healer, we are rarely targeting the mobs, so we do not have the luxury of keeping an eye on the cast bar. I've been reading up on latency issues with regards to the dodging of AoE attacks of certain bosses. There are times where I see AoE targets on the ground and I run to the clear other side of the area before the AoE target disappears and I still get hit. I cannot understand why and it is extremely frustrating. I've been reading that due to latency issues, it is much better to simply keep a constant eye on enemy cast bars, so that you can more reliably dodge AoE without having to rely on the red markers. This makes plenty of sense if you are a DD or a Tank, as more often than not you are constantly targeting the boss. However, as a healer we are almost never targeting the boss. Any fellow healers able to provide some advice and how they combat this?

HOLD SHIFT - F will give you a focus bar you can place anywhere you want and you are able to see that mobs cast bar. Make sure you have a mob targeted first before hitting Shift - F

You can include a focus target instruction in any of your cure macros. Just add the following line:

/focustarget <tt>

The full macro will now look like this:

/macroicon cure
/focustarget <tt>
/ac "cure" <mo>
/ac "cure" <t>
(for controller users the <mo> line is not necessary)

With that you will automatically focus your tank's target.

To add to this... can you move the enemy cast bar? I don't see that option in the PS3 HUD layout...

Does this work for ps3 too? I can't seem to get it to work.

Sadly, it is not supported on the ps3. You can verify by going into the keybinds and into the targeting section. It's not there.

A little workaround I do on PS3 (flash back to FFXI castings) is place enemies engaged abilities in the chat bar in a different color and you can see when they start to cast. If the chat bar is filtered well it should show up when the enemies cast bar would have been shown if you had the enemy targeted.

Wow thanks for that, for some reason it never occurred to me. I'll try it. As a healer on PS3 I've mostly been ignorant of what the mobs cast, at least with that I should get an idea of what's going on.
