Questionable FFXIV Add in IGNFollow

It's doubtful they pick and choose what ads you are served. Typically the site you see the add on is just being served the ad from an automated service, which usually uses things like your own browsing data to return ads their engine matches with your interests.

Naw its just an ad that works like "display FFXIV ad001" which happens to be the bot website, im sure there is 002 = the offical website , 003 = some random fan site etc etc.

Its usually some company is paid to promote your website, and they do it by selling ad space on other websites. etc etc

I remember this happening on Allakhazam (before it was Zam.com) a while ago. I think it was gold/gil sellers, rather than bots, but the explanation was the same - they were being fed ads from a service. However, after the community made a stink about it, the staff were able to work out a deal with the advertising company to make sure no more similar ads appeared.

Every gaming site I go to on the internet (including this one on occassion) has a Wartune add with "Males Only" and a picture of a woman in a chainmail bra, even though those ads were proven to be blatant false advertisement (female gamers can certainly play and those advertisements contain more nudity than the game). Whether it is an ad for selling gil, or the pilot coming over the intercom to try to sell me a US Airways credit card, marketing in general has turned into a profession that will join attorneys and politicians in a special dark corner when the world goes to mess.

Forget hot coffee and slipping on the floor, we need more false advertising lawsuits. Turn the lawyers against the marketers and they can battle.

Ads? what Ads? I use Firefox with adblock plus, pop up killer, no-script and other goodies.
So I never see any ads anywhere :)
