I don't know if I should transfer or not...Follow

Okay so here's the deal. I'm on a Japanese legacy server, Durandal, and for the most part have been quite happy. The community here is nice, I've made good friends, and I've been able to do all of the content, even Titan, with only a tiny bit of difficulty. So long as I'm on top of everything I can dodge the attacks of enemies. Now here's the rub: I had invited my friend from England who I've been friends with for years to join the server way back at release. Somewhat recently, we did Titan story mode, and that's where we hit the big issue. Despite having clearly dodged Titan she'd been knocked off the platform twice during our attempts. That's where the issue for both of us, though less for me lies; should we transfer to an NA legacy server where we supposedly will have a much better connection for content? For me it's very hard to decide. I love being on the Japanese server, being able to practice Japanese as I interact with Japanese players who are almost always polite and very friendly to be around. Part of me is worried that I'd be sacrificing that great community and the friends I'd made on Durandal (I love Japan and would miss playing with them) in exchange for a better connection, but also a community of entitled American (I'm also American) ******** who treat you like **** if you don't do everything perfectly and have the gall and audacity to actually enjoy the storyline's cutscenes. I just don't know what I should do...

Stay where you are, some of the NA/EU servers are just horribly crowded and unfortunately sometimes the players are very impolite. I sometimes play on Hades because it's so peaceful and there seems to be little in the way of gil sellers spamming you every two seconds. Why don't you make an alt on an US/EU server and see how it "feels" before you transfer.

I am on Coeurl (NA), and while crowding isn't an issue (albeit latency can be a problem with Camp Dragonhead FATEs as far as enemies showing up) I have also encountered my share of impoliteness, at least with DoW folks. The crafters are a good group, but it's hit or miss getting through a dungeon without some elitist running their mouth. I just don't think it can be avoided in the self centric soceity we have here. If not for latency I would be going to JP as I have always liked their culture, but at this point I'm just going to stick it out with liberal blacklisting.

My group of friends are all transferring to a NA Legacy server because of the latency issues. It's not very noticeable for our Californian friend, but most of us (from Canada), experience pretty noticeable lag on fights like Titan.

We're also on Durandal (JP Legacy) by the way :o

I do get where you come from though, it is nice being able to share the game experience with another culture.

I thought the legacy servers were among the most crowded?

Sorry, I left some stuff out.
Apparently we can't transfer to a non-Legacy from a Legacy server, so we're temporarily heading to Sargatanas until SE lets us go to (hopefully) Midgardsormr.

Call her "noob" and dump her.

In all seriousness, you gave a ton of reasons why you shouldn't leave and only one why you should. Does the one outweigh the many?

inb4 He transfers to NA group and when he gets knocked off the platform on Titan, she dumps him

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

I'm staying on Durandal too, as a FFXI player I appreciate the maturer community you'll find on a JP server and have made many awesome JP friends both in FFXI and FFXIV. I played WoW for a bit and really, I don't look forward to going to something like that again, way too many immature kids shouting their mouths off.

If you wanna be more serious and go for the hard content, then yes the latency is a good reason, I have Titan HM on farm now only because I memorized everything so I have an extra 500ms head start on the dodge. It's a challenge I'm willing to live with and lots of players respect that I do well despite my latency. But I'm a casual player so I'm fine not getting the best gear, I like to just hang out and be laid back with nice folks, hardly care if I get nothing done all day!

I loved how in FFXI you could dedicate a day to crafting or questing, and hey you still can! And latency has nothing to do with that, now imagine trying to do the same thing with kids running around shouting all day, well then I'd have to turn shout off and that kinda detracts from the experience of being in a community. Then you pop into a DF group and get elitists who pick on every little thing you do wrong, maybe that's the problem, everything in WoW was always rush rush rush to end game and end game gear, with JPs it feels more casual, we're just here to have fun and get along!

I dont really know if you should transfer or not. But I will say that as a level 32 Tank I do my best to be a good leader to the groups im in, as tanks are often looked to lead. Im sure theres many bad players, most likely as you hit endgame more, but in my experience I have had only good parties so far and I like to think Im doing my part in making them so by both coming prepared and setting the example with a good attitude.

Perhaps its time for people who enjoy this game and its players to take leader roles rather than following those who have simply hit endgame first and want the power and control that comes from leadership rather than using it to help others and create a better community.

This is the best suggestion you'll get in regards to your specific issue. A little bit of latency is worth it in comparison to the current state of things end-game on (what i've gathered) most of the NA servers. Until some of the freeloaders/career gamers drop off and more casuals start filtering the elitist pool, it's not a 'happy' place. You'll get stuff done, but unless you run exclusively with your FC, you'll encounter more jerks than not at the moment.

My wife was sitting next to me when we did Titan story. She had the same issue. My computer is pretty beefy, her's is getting an upgrade because I'm tired of waiting on load times and during fates in crowded areas I get way more exp than she does cause it takes them forever to load. The issue your friend is having could be more of a computer issue than a location of servers. I watched her run out of the hit zones immediately and still got knocked back almost every time. I ended up telling her to just run towards Titan and I healed her up. She kept trying to dodge but almost always got hit. The tank whined but i never ran out of mana and healed the fight no problem.

If the community is good, stay where you are or you'll regret it. I doubt you'll get a better latency on NA servers anyway. I get killed all the time by AOEs that I avoided perfectly. I'm absolutely sick of being dead a mile out of a red circle, it's not funny anymore. And there's a couple hours drive that separates me from the servers, it's not like they are at the other end of the world.
