This is a guy I've known for upwards, 8 years. He's been through 30+ terrible mmos with me and the other people in our tiny FC. Of all of us, he seems the most level-headed stand up guy, and today he just got banned out of nowhere for "suspicious IP activity". I want to help him, but I don't know what I can do, being unrelated in SE's eyes.
We ran Garuda HM yesterday a bunch, everyone logged off for maint, and he hasn't been online since. There's no new characters on his account. The kicker is that this suspicious activity (according to the web chat, after a 7-hour queue) is that an RMT-linked IP tried to login to my friend's ID, and the account was suspended. TRIED - DIDN'T SUCCEED. He reused an old account name apparently, but had a different password set. No login took place, his account is still soley in his hands, and it was escalated to a perma-ban as a result of him providing his details to the support agent for literally no given reason. The support agent gave this reason for termination:
>""Here is an excerpt from the activity log regarding this termination:""
and nothing else. The activity log is empty. It just ends there.
If they're banning for attempting logins too, what is the point of having an authenticator?
I understand suspension for the sake of protecting an account (Blizzard), but if no successful login took place, how on earth is that even remotely reasonable? Especially to then escalate a suspension to a ban, given valid account details were provided and acknowledged.
He's submitted a ticket, but is hesitant to call in because of the long distance cost (not American), and because he thinks it's rather hopeless given what people are saying on forums re:bans. If I call for him, they'll probably refuse to deal with anyone but the account holder, so I'm not sure what else there is. I just don't want to see him get screwed over like this, is there nothing I/we can do? Other friends are contemplating quitting because of this as well, which would be a pity given that the game itself is not the issue.
edit: thank you for the replies, I can't seem to reply, I get a 404 error.
