I want to be a better stunner. I really do. But sometimes the jump stun Dragoon receives gives me fits. Am I just victim of ps3 limitations or does Dragoon's jump stun feel sluggish? I feel like I'm 50/50 with it on some quick turning aoe/conal attacks. Am I just fail with it? Any insight would be appreciated.

Might feel sluggish because the actual stun effect doesn't proc until you actually land on the enemy and by that point the move has usually gone off and it's.to late for you to get out of the way.

Pretty much this. I only use my Spineshatter Dive to stun a mob that is running away, attacks a back-line job, or if I want to try and preemptively stun a move (like the Succubi in AK).

It's extremely sluggish. You won't find many groups assigning stun duty to dragoons for this reason. I'm not entirely sure why they want to give you a stun when it's hard to catch really fast abilities with it, but I have a feeling that it's something like IKickYoDog mentioned: it's to prevent mobs from escaping your melee range more than anything.

Great advice guys. You just gave an ability I disliked new life.

Yes jump stun is very sluggish and I use it basically to stop a mob chasing a mage or on the really long special attacks some mobs have ..... but that's no reason to keep a drg out of stun duty... They still have Leg sweep which is I'm told just as strong as a GLP/PLD shield bash and is a fast stun as well

Leg sweep works swimmingly. Use it all the time.

Well, to me there's a really obvious reason for not letting a DRG be on stun duty.

Your stun, as all other stuns are too, is on a global cooldown linked with your other skills. For anything that charges quick, it basicly means that you wont be able to do anything other than keeping an eye out for stun, due to it possibly not being available for 2,5 seconds if you just hit an ability, or hit an ability while it's charging even.

So you have a choice, use a DRG for pure damage, or let him just lounge around and just stun whenever it's appropriate. More often than not, there are other jobs out there that are better suited to be on stun duty unfortunately. Jobs that dont contribute as much with damage. Usually a second tank takes that role since they're only there to either jump in when stuff goes horribly bad, or to assist on spawns.

No, you're right. Leg Sweep is off GCD.

Tangent, but as it was said all stuns were on GCD...

Brutal Swing from MRD is off it too I think...just like Leg Sweep

I think he is referring to the between ability cooldown, possibly? Given the "just stand around" comment.

At lvl 50, Leg Sweep is on a 20 second non-GCD timer. It can be used in the middle of a combo and will not interrupt the combo. It is also subject to normal diminishing returns.

I honestly wish more DRGs would pay attention to the fact that they do have stuns... usually it's a DRG (every now and then a MNK) tossing stun WS's at Ifrit and other bosses messing the resist all up ^.~

I make it a point to completely remove Spineshatter Dive and Leg Sweep from my hotbars when I'm doing Ifrit. I also remove Elusive Jump when I'm fighting Titan (took that lovely tumble by accident once when trying to Dragonfire...)

Thought I posted in this thread already but: I really hope Dragoon revamp is high on their to-do list.

Stuff like our stun jump honestly just seems useless to me because of how much danger it puts you in (same for the regular jump). Dragoon overall is very sluggish and more trouble than its worth from what I have seen... It's still my favorite class so please don't flame, but I feel that the least amount of work was put into it for 2.0 versus the other classes. Just my opinion.

just have to be careful about when you use jumps. I wish they'd make jumps non-self-rooting too but not holding my breath. Til that happens i am actually kind of enjoying having to use my gap closers (basically the main use for DfD and SD) more strategically than I do in other games.

edit: i also think that the devs wanted players to have to make meaningful choices about when to use Jumps, otherwise they would have coded them to work just like Ring of Thorns or Doomspike, ie you can move while you are in the middle of the ability. Although that raises another issue that i haven't tested yet: If you start a Ring of Throns while in AoE, but move out of it during the ability, do you still get hit? Will check it out tonight, I'm somewhat ashamed for having put this off for so long tbh.

I wouldn't necessarily mind staying rooted if they would add a stronger buff to power surge. High risk/high reward type of thing. Maybe add a trait bonus.

Thanks for the enlightening info.

I was doing Ifrit earlier on PLD and I usually volunteer to stun. Of course, we had two dragoons. One was pretty good and never used leg or spine but the other one would constantly trigger the DR limit on Ifrit which caused many people to lose their **** because three eruptions went off.

Given that your stun is off the GCD, I'd prefer DRGs stunning Ifrit TBH. Then again, the OT has nothing better to do than pick his nose so meh.
