What's the gimmick to this ACN fight?

Hate these solo fights in a multi-player game, so dumb.

I like them, they teach you how to play your job so that other people theoretically don't have to.

Is this the one with Ifrit?

I died twice before I was able to finish this one. It really tests your flexibility in using your skills.

You'll want to focus any mages first obviously, but then you should be DoT'ing all of the rest of the enemies. As you do this, keep an eye on your teammates' health and drop cures as needed.

If you draw aggro, kite them around the mast in the center of the arena, but try to stay close enough to your pet (Topaz carby) so it can pull hate back via AoEs.

Once you get the trash cleared out, the boss isn't too bad (even though I did have to kite him for the last half of his HP).

The mechanics of the fight aren't too complicated, just remember that the sooner you whittle down the numbers of enemies, the smoother the fight will go.

I agree. The key to this fight is taking out the healers as soon as possible, or they'll undo your damage on the others, and eventually wear you out. You can spot the mages easily because their levels are hidden (shown as Level ??). Throw everything you have at them, and the rest of the fight is simple.

I was extremely disappointed with the PUG lvl30 fight, including the one before that with Harmon Holyfist.

Perhaps, I was expecting him to beat my *** Maat-style, but instead, I destroyed him even when he reached his full potential.

Same here on the Lancer 30 quest to unlock Dragoon — however, I guess if you are geared well and understand how to play your role in this solo environment (with the NPC helpers, I didnt get any on NPC help on the Lancer one) they're not too hard.
