Need help for installing on Windows 7Follow

#1 Sep 24 2013 at 8:08 PM Rating: Decent
I need helping installing the game on Windows 7. My benchmark score is 2490, not great, but it should work. I have my 1.0 disc and I have downloaded the client from: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na/
I have installed it as specified in the instructions on that page. When I load it, it get a plain black window, with only the title bar visible. Nothing happens, even if left for an hour. There are no error windows or error codes.

I have restarted windows.
I have changed these settings in every possible combination:
I have loaded msconfig and Un/Loaded system services.
Run Installer and Client as administrator, Run not as adminstrator, Changed compatibility for XP SP3, Vista SP2, Windows 7
Firewall/Avira/Spybot on/off
Updated Windows/Internet Explorer/Java
Internet Options-- Privacy settings to Medium High, En/Disabled Protected Mode, ffxiv.com and square-enix.com on Trusted Sites
Read-only En/Disabled on "My Documents/My Games" and "Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix"

I don't know what else to do, any advice would be appreciated.

Running the installer as administrator with your AV turned off has worked for the overwhelming majority of people having problems.

Also... Avira AND Spybot? No bueno. Only one active scanner at a time!

Tried it with AV off as admin, and the same thing happened.

Internet Explorer shouldn't be affecting the installation. The game has its own built in mini web browser.

What is your video card? Have you updated the drivers?

u could run "event viewer" , click windows log -> application, and check if there is any error log for ff14. then go to the official forum and log a technical error bug.

My video card, shamefully, is Intel(R) HD Graphics Family.

The windows log actually does have recent events in there with ffxivboot in it with the provider name "WIndows Error Reporting"

I guess I'll be headed to the official forums soon.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Doesn't FFXIV require a discrete graphics card? GT8800 minimum wasn't it?

I saw the minimum, but I don't know how to translate graphics card power. I figured with benchmark score of 2490, it should at least be able to run in reduced graphics.

An Intel 4000 on one of the newest processors could potentially handle it but I doubt it. I couldn't even get my laptop to run the benchmark, so the fact that the benchmark ran at all is already interesting.

SE did warn that the benchmark running is not a guarantee that the game will run and is only meant to give an indication of your system's performance. Really, it's a glorified trailer.
