Is it my turn to rant? Go away FATE zergs!Follow

I find the FATE zergs to be obnoxious beyond description. They pour across the zones like Abu Hassan and the Forty Thieves, screaming, waving their weapons around atop their mounts, and slaughtering everything in sight. When they find a FATE, they steal all the contribution, leaving you with none.

Go away FATE zergs.

Here's a clip of a FATE zerg in Southern Thanalan.

FATEs can be fun, if theyre not zerged.

Ya, I'm just looking to be able to get off a single DOT before something dies, but even that can be too hard. I guess there's always the duty finder.

This thread is gonna lead you straight to Guru status.

Thankfully, I don't take FATEs all that seriously and just stick to certain ones that most people don't bother with because it's too tedious, or surrounded by tons of non fate aggro mobs.

And while it supports your joke, the youtube video is an ACCURATE way to describe how fast FATEs end.

The slow short timed escort guy walking north of Dragon head is one of the funny ones. It starts at 6 ppl then 20,50 and then100+ while people still be coming at the end because its in the middle of the map. Casting a spell is to slow Carby has to attack mobs in the mass of people. You know the Fate is over when you here the wind blowing and it's just six people around again.Smiley: lol

Ha, that video link was a perfect representation.

To be honest though, I am usually one of those Zerg, loves me a good zegling rush. Granted, I only do FATEs when I'm leveling a low level job and am waiting on my FC/LS to set up an event, or waiting for duty finder to find me a group.

Join one of them FATE parties :D
I have this problem as a healer, if you heal people, you do not seem to get the cred as if you tried to nuke stuff. So what I did was keybind a button that targets nearest mob (can find it in your key binds), and then cast Aero (it is basically instant) and run around hitting the Next Mob button and hit aero. So far it has worked for me :D

Apropos of nothing, I thought it was Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Luckily, the zerg army doesn't often keep my thaumaturge from getting a swiftcast blizzard II or two in so I can usually rely on getting some kind of contribution credit. Still, I do try to join the fate groups if I'm gonna be in a zone for more than about thirty minutes.

Seriously, nothing in the last 30+ years can stand up to the awesomeness of Popeye.

Maybe Darkwing Duck. Maybe.

Is it sad that I actually have that on VHS XD

On topic, I see this all the times during FATEs, and by the time I target a mob, it's either dead or I have enough time to hit it once. But as a GLD/PLD or any class you can put flash to, spamming flash can net me full contribution, and if possible, some Fast=>Riot for MP. =)

A tip I discovered while playing my ACN (no AOEs for now), If you cast cure on the NPC being escorted right as he is aggroed by a wave of mobs, you can claim all of them. Really helps up your score and gives you claim xp from all the mobs.

Otherwise, i have a hard time getting gold by trying to DoT tag as many mobs as I can. It's a bit ridiculous.

Honestly, I'd prefer to be running dungeons if the xp/time was close to matching Fates.

Good luck convincing others to try something new.

I agree with the OP, I hate them too and these people are likely players leveling up a second or third class/job and with no quest available they go to the only means of leveling at this point.

I was seriously considering a tank job, but I burned all my quests on lancer and mnk. I guess they are banking on people to rely on the dailies to take up 3rd, 4th, 5th jobs.

what i noticed and found really hillarious, is that people don't even care if it's a fate mob or not. If it's in the way, it's getting mowed down.

I'm actually leveling ACN right now to 34 for my WHM cross class spells. I've found that the instant cast DOT is all I can get off, just like CNJ with Aero. I just tab from mob to mob dotting them up.

As a WHM I almost never heal someone in a FATE unless they're gonna die.

It is, but this version seems to use Abu Hassan.

I think I'm beyond my monthly allowance of mentioning MLP here on a non MLP forum, but My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is really damn good. The people who make it seem to have grown up on late 80s-mid 90s cartoons. I will say that this episode of Popeye is probably superior to pony in its wit and old timey charm.

I grew up on whatever I had on VHS. This included.

I half expect the trees to be torn down and burning, and the grass to be trampled.

That's a good trick. I should just roll HOTs on the escort NPCs.

I recently started healing npcs in FATES and unless i'm in a mindless mob I don't do it. Every nearby mob that doesn't have hate targets you, it's very very painful.

I was using this last night to my advantage. I am switching from WAR to PLD and I was leveling up CNJ to 15 for the prerequisites. As we all know, leveling up a CNJ can be the epitome of slloooooowww, so when I would see a FATE pop up near me, I would just start tagging the non-involved enemies in the area and just let the zerg deal with them for me. I got a half a level doing this last night, and it was fun to watch as I would drag new and unrelated mobs over to the group, watch em get hosed, and then bring a couple more. I don't even think anyone noticed.

You can actually sense the FATE zerg appoaching by the lag shockwave that precedes them. no joke.
