If it had been FFXI, I would have said no because it's just name shaming.

But the DF causes people to become complete asshats due to anonymity so why not:

It didn't stop the behavior in XI. People who are that dumb/mean-spirited/miserable don't care about name shaming. But it is certainly more prevalent/apparent with the high frequency of pick up groups in XIV.

I'm actually offended that they played on the same XI server that I did.

I've encountered tanks who didn't know what Flash was for in Sastasha and who needed a Tanking 101 class, but no one I've met has complained about their gear yet.

As long as they're not playing in underwear or weathered outfits, I don't really care. But they need to learn the art of tanking, and Sastasha is a good tutorial for it (since people obviously didn't read the gladiator class tutorials.)

The tank who quit on me and my GF couldn't b!@#h about gear because our gear was better than his. He quit because my GF got lag killed by a bomb AOE (she was out of range on my screen, her own and the healer's) The tank said something about "stupid noobs can't even dodge AOE" and quit. The replacement tank was awesome though. Told us that it was his first run but listened well to instructions and was a good tank in general.

Me and my better half played ffxi for years. Already, i've seen more elitism in the past month of playing 2.0 then in the years we were in ffxi. This is just mind numbingly sad. I think it's mostly due to the DL and like others have mentioned; it gives ******** a free pass to be ******** because they won't have to play with people they meet in it. I wish there was some sort of system in place where you could 'like' or 'dislike' a person and either increase the odds of you getting paired with them or decrease the odds of playing with them. Players should have an overall score too, ******** get a low enough score and they won't be able to use the DF because no one wants a elitist ******* in their party.

honestly i think its a safe bet that a naked party could finish Sastasha or any of the early dungeons np. Also, I'd much prefer having to give a newbie tanking lessons over having to deal with the neghead attitude of a sad and depressing elitist person any day.

I think lack of XP party play also has something to do with it. You learned to play nice when you were forced to just to level up. I love the rating idea, but it would just give the elitist another tool to establish their dominance Smiley: rolleyes

There has been so many, my mind is unable to filter out the first one. I remember the worse one though, who was my HNMLS leader, and how he was often very rude to us for no reason. No one would stand up to him, until he decided to go off on me after we wiped in Dynamis-San d'Oria. Then I ripped him a new one by telling him how he was the worst player on the server, having been banned THREE TIMES for botting, and this prompt a lot of people to leave after I dropped the shell.

My only "bad" experience so far was a SV run. As soon as the dungeon loads, the healer asks me if it's my first time. I say yes, and they leave the group immediately. Then again, I'm only 47. I'm sure I'll see plenty at 50. I played WoW for years though so I'm used to it. That and a player flaming in my group doesn't bother me at all now that I'm getting older. Nowadays it's more like "meh...hoping my Broncos win the Super Bowl this year..."

I'm finding it's easier to brush off people like that too at my age. Man when I was 20 though.. -.-

I met no elitists yet on my server, probably because I've been in 3 groups, 2 from duty finder. And the players on my server seem pretty cool anyway.

Famfrit server? I may have to transfer there.

Just want to share my story:

I joined Ifrit HM as warrior and ended up with another warrior, I said we could rotate stuns and so on after 2 wipes the WHM just said it was hopeless and said one of us should leave. The weird thing was that if we were so terrible he could just leave himself, so we keep on trying to stun it and wipe again and then he starts complaining constantly on how terrible we are. Then on the fourth attempt we get the stun rotations down and kill ifrit. After we won he said we only won because of he was so good. Well if he was so good we wouldn't have wiped three times in a row. Only difference on the fourth run was when we got the stun rotations down.

I hope they make Ifrit immune against stun because of it makes him too easy when you have a PLD and apparently impossible the second you have to stun rotate with another person. Patterns after inferno are very predictable but relying on a 2nd warrior to stun is hit or miss depending on if that person is good to communicate. I've had people leave the second when they see 2 warriors in one group.

I think the good would far out weight the bad it would do. Sure that elitist MNK from the other night would have rated me down, but the BLM and PLD from the same party would have rated me up, along with the 6 other friends i made from doing Chimera runs. Sure the elitist could rate you down, but odds are you and every other person in the party would rate them down so i think it would work out. ^.^

I've been thinking about it and I think it could work if it was a majority vote system. Since the number of other players in a party is always odd (3 for light party, 7 for full party) you would always get a result. It would have to be set up so you could see everyone's rating beforehand but it would let you know what you are getting into at least.

I just thought it would be a good idea for the DF. I am taking the idea from my experience on XBOX live and their rating system. I find it so much better to avoid those ******* players.

No I agree. They're already going to implement a system to weed out the players that have insufficient gear so this wouldn't be much of a stretch. If you got a DF party and saw everyone else had a poor rating you could just drop right away saving everyone frustration. I'm still trying to figure out how it would work for new players...maybe you can only be rated following you 5th run or something.

First time I met an elitist was back in FFXI. I was EXPing my level 70-something SMN and I was wearing a Vermillion Cloak instead of an Austere Robe+1 (which I owned, but the Vermy and I had a long history so I often wore it instead unless we were doing HNMs and such). For the attempted reaming this MNK was trying to give me you'd think I had rectally defiled his potted plants. "They're crabs dude. I have more MP than Altana herself and its one pair of BPs a fight anyway. Deal with it."

Unless we're counting the YEARS of "lolSMN" treatment I and other received maining SMN immediately at launch as elitism. That never stopped until the patch a couple years ago.

In FFXIV I met a mild form of it at level 26-ish? Two friends and I were doing a Sastasha run and invited a pickup WHM. I was using Topaz Carby to control all the adds while the others killed one mob at a time, with the tank pulling new ones off Carby as we went. It was FFXI Carby-holding, one of our oldest tricks in the book. Its hard to describe just how perfectly it works in the intro dungeons. Mr. WoWie WHM had problems with it.

The label elitist shows up almost thirty times in this thread, which is bizarre considering not one personal anecdote has described an elitist at all. It's actually kind of easy to tell: Elitists use static parties. It's about min/maxing, and you can't min/max with random people. You just can't. It's not an opinion, it's a simple fact. So if your story involves a pick up group or a shout, then you're not dealing with an elitist. You're dealing with an idiot.

i didn't think the term was appropriate either but was too lazy to think of another descriptor. idiot works. so does wannabe elitist idiot. because i think thats where it often comes from. dumb people who are trying to act the way they think good/veteran players act.

I'm not an elitist at all. My highest class right now is 24 and I love helping people out when I can. That being said, I have been annoyed in one run, I think Copperbell, maybe Tam-Tara. The Marauder simply wasn't tanking, but was taking a lot of damage. Oh and he wasn't folloowing target order. I'm not really sure what he was doing. I basically tanked the entire instance on my archer (no, I wasn't simply over-DPSing) since the other DPS and obviously the healer both seemed a little more squishy than I. Luckily, we somehow managed to clear the dungeon. Instead of berating the tank though, I just thanked the healer at the end for doing a great job.

My first AK run went something like this:

Me: Hello!
Healer: Anyone new?
Me: This is my first time here.
Tank disconnects.
Healer disconnects.

Awesome. The next party I got into, myself and the tank were both new, we had a very helpful healer and dps who explained the fights, and we didn't wipe once over the run. Sometimes Often people forget that player skill/experience >> gear and I'm usually ok dealing with that, but man people in this game are insanely high strung.

I guess people don't get it that fake DCing isn't more pleasant than actually leaving the party.
