PS3 Fate lag and invisible enemies. Follow

#27 Sep 25 2013 at 11:04 AM Rating: Good
Made an account to reply to this. I have the same problems, but after clearing my ps3 cache, clearing something else, then reformatting the whole thing and re-downloading ... I bought an Ethernet cable. Before going wired I had only experienced one dungeon run without having to chase my partners around by the blue dots on the map. Since getting the cable, it tracks party members without fail. Fates still lag terribly, but the connection status is always excellent now instead of the, "sometimes excellent sometimes good" it was before. I have 5mb down, which works out to 4.7 in actuality. I live in Saskatchewan.

The problem definitely is the lack of RAM, but an SSD can help mitigate the issue.

Any time some data is needed, but is not in RAM, it has to be retrieved from disk. With such a small amount of memory, I'm sure it happens a lot on PS3 as it swaps loaded character/mob models and textures.

If you can decrease the latency of this retrieval (which SSD's will do, by an order of magnitude), you will make this process much smoother. You'll still see the pop-in, but it should be much more fluid.

I agree with you, but the diminishing returns with all the bottlenecks on the PS3 isn't enough of a reason to justify this for me. I'd rather wait until Feb and install a SSD in my PS4 and see the difference. I've come to the conclusion that no matter what, a SSD is needed for this game. The loading is horrible and I've had PC players literally leave me at the entrance to a zone while my PS3 loaded. Don't get me started with Cut-scenes either. It's a much wiser course of action to upgrade to the PS4 for anybody who has the money to do so.

Garuda likes to conveniently disappear for me on occassion. Makes for a fun battle as a dps requiring a target. Others in my party tell me that is her steath mode, but I disagree. Smiley: tongue

If I recall correctly, in FFXI you could target PCs and NPCs before they were loaded. The cursor would just show up on the ground until the model fully loaded. Wouldn't that be the easiest solution? I wouldn't mind DPSing an invisible spot on the floor for a while, at least I'd have a target.

Seems like a logical fix. I also don't mind standing on top of 50 other invisible players heads if it means I can see behemoth.

For the record I'm on a crapalicious DSL connection a thousand miles from the data centers and I get "Excellent."

I think it's because I'm very close to a major AT&T DSL backbone and have no more than 3-4 hops to the Montreal data center (since the pipe goes from ATL to NYC to Montreal.)

I also don't have any of the FATE lag problems people have described. I feel bad for you guys. Smiley: frown

Lol, I wonder how many hops it takes to get to Wyoming.

I had this problem with Cancer the other day. They really need to just change the priority to Boss > Mob > PC > NPC > Pet > Minion. In fact, we should just be able to shut minions off altogether.

Well I'm on PS3 and I can always see Cancer - it is one of my favourite FATES.
I tend to like the big one monster ones over the other lots of tiny monster ones-
at least I get a chance to hack at it before the 20 mil horsemen of the apocalypse arrive!

SE has said that they're looking into changing the priority of models loading for Odin and one other high level FATE, Behemoth I think. They're not currently touching anything else though but are "aware of it", which means idk what. I was surprised that Svara wasn't high on that list of being targeted for improvement.

I'm given to understand this has to do with max number of elements loading, not necessarily characters only. I've heard if you turn off name tags on everything it improves. Your computer/PS3/internet connection aren't really the culprit here, or not to the point where it matters. It's the game , not you.

It is the ps3..
I play on the pc and Tesee plays right next to me on the ps3.
It not just fates it is everything. I stand in a area where there are tons of people and she stands in the same area and she will not see everyone. I mean it looks like a ghost town on the ps3.. Some one will run by us and she will never see them... You dont notice this stuff unless you play with the pc side by side with the ps3.

There are sounds missing. I didn't notice how bad it was at first but it is bad.

I run into a fate and see 20 enemies she sees two...

I stood their waving to a friend from ffxi that plays on the ps3 for 10 minutes and he never saw me...

Funny thing is the actual game runs pretty smooth and the graphics are not bad on the PS3. It just can not draw in everything or handle all the sounds.

I know SE is aware of the problem with the ps3 only being able to draw so much and said it would be fixed with the ps4. That dont help the ps3 people out though.. I really think they should have waited for the ps4 and skipped the ps3.

They released on PS3 to fulfill a promise made three years ago for version 1.0 - I think they did a very good job considering the hardware limitations that they are dealing with.

If you play on PS3 and then buy a PS4, SE will give you the software for XIV for free on PS4. So really, they've done right by the PS3 players in the end.

I know why they did it, I just think they should not have.

Thats the whole problem with this game they made to many promises to too many and cant make everyone happy.. When they said this was a whole new game then all promises should have been off... The PS3 can not handle this new engine period.

PS3 version is amazing considering the limitations. Fates can be annoying but I've seen the same issues on pc and it's never been game breaking for me. Doesn't bode well for any kind of open world content though.

You have to be joking.. The ps3 is not amazing.. I didn't think it was bad at first but it is bad the more I see both side by side.. You never played both version side by side. The problem is when just playing the ps3 you dont see what you are missing so you dont know. I go into a town and see hundreds of people and Tesee walks in and see a few on the ps3 ( the game looks dead on the ps3) The other day I was using fire works and they dont show up on the ps3 when other people use them. Sounds are missing, sound locks up completely. Missing or lost of graphics, graphics glitching, horrible user interface. I go into a fate and see all enemies she sees a couple. The Ps3 as it sits with present code can not handle the game. What bothers me is the ps3 graphically should really be able to handle this gam so I think it a memory limitation and the ps3 simply can not draw everything on the screen.. Actually that has been said by the developers that the ps3 only can display so much at a time. I saw the FC saying one of main quest fights can not even be done on the ps3 the other day.

The game is playable on PS3. Obviously ideally the game looks and plays better on a high end PC, but the PS3 runs the game just fine with no issues.
