Not Enough Buttons (Gamepad)Follow

Hello there,

I am playing FFXIV on PC, put I have to admit I love using the ps3/xbox controller, simply so I can kick back in bed/on sofa and relax. I expect to do some 13 hours sessions so I dont wanna be cramped at a desk/keyboard!

But erm... I noticed in Beta... the pad interface/shorcut bar doesnt have enough "slots" to hold every skill (including the additional skills from a sub class and Limit Break).

Am I missing something? or are pad/ps4 gamers supposed to lose the benefit of skills slots?
Its possible i'm being a moron, I only got 2 hours to play in Beta 4, so didnt get a chance to find out if theirs any extra buttons combinations (L1+R1+ O ect)

Thanks!

You can also keep a wireless keyboard next to you on the couch to allow for quick chat and even some extra key bindings, for less essential skills.

I think that is my only logical option :)

Seems a bit strange how pad users are limited to a set number though. I know this is due to obvious reasons of limitations of buttons on the pad...but if they just add more combinations of the shoulder buttons it would be fine.

But you are right, I mean I'd need a KB to chat effectively anyways.

You don't need all slots active on the main UI. PS3 players hit R1 to switch to the second or 3rd page if needed. The main functions for page 1 or 2 at the most should be easy to do with a controller.

You've got 16 buttons per set, and something like 8 sets, so you'll have to set up your buttons on each set depending on what role you're gonna play.

You can set up multiple hotbars (8) and cycle through them with easily with the R1 or access them even quicker by holding down R1 and hitting the button that is associated with that hot bar.

See I'm way to tired. But I knew there were pages. :-) The information I gave you was just from my gamepad fiddling.

You can also use KB/Mouse hotbars while playing with a controller. You have to use the mouse to use them, or keybind them, never tried that. Handy for the actions you don't use all the time but would like quick access to; Tele, Return, Choco whistle, emotes etc etc

I can't remember, But I believe . you start with l2 (8 buttons) r2(8 buttons), HOLD l2 + HOLD r1 Switches your Original l2 and r2 buttons sets to a fresh one. as well as HOLD r2+ HOLD l1 Gives you yet another Button set. If I'm recalling correctly. Alls I know Is I could bring up all new button sets from my controller for a total of 48 hotkey buttons.

Keep in mind though that HOLDING r2 and TAPPING l1 and vice versa in combat just cycles mobs. So you must HOLD both :-)

I may be off in my calculations and button combinations but extra sets are there. I've been up since 6 am yesterday morning so leave me a little slack :-)

Amazing answer thank you :)

Thanks everyone, I wasnt aware there more combinations! Maybe skills like sprint, limitbreak ect can go on the L2+R1 and that should free up space.
Appreciated, thanks.

I thought that was how it worked but according to many people in this thread alls you need to do is press r1 to cycle pages. But the pages are there. So infact you actually get more than 48 hotkeys according to what people are saying.

But the tidbit about Holding R2 and Tapping L1, Helps in FATES alot because theres so many people. That combo will cycle just the mobs. As well as vice versa Holding L2 and Tapping R1.

Oh no, this is all in the plan. I've been strategizing all day yesterday how I would be ready for Early Access. I decided that Staying up all night and through the afternoon today and then crashing at 4-5pm(new decision old was 2-3pm), then waking up at around 10pm -12am maybe 1am And getting all hyped and set and ready to rock at 2am was the best choice!

CANT WAIT!
