The six hour extension helped me get an alt to lv.10 and into the inn before the clock ran out, and then I played around with the character creator 'til the time came.
Since then, I've pretty much done nothing but tell a co-worker about FFXIV:ARR (he'd been in the 1.0 beta), and trying to plan how to get everything set up for August 24th. I'm also putting my PC together today or tomorrow, and the first thing that'll probably go on it is the FFXIV:ARR benchmark. lol
I wouldn't say that I'm overly addicted to playing the game, but I did miss it between Phases 3 and 4, and miss being able to play it now, simply for a lack of much else to do online on the PS3. I'm more longing to see what comes later, as it's a part of the game I have yet to experience. I'm also longing to stop dying during most of the Conjurer solo quests.
I did find out that three other people on my PSN play it though, so there's the making of a small group goin' on there. Would be nice, to start out with a static group to help get through things...
