Upon beta coming to an end in a few hours (7 to be exact), how have you all found the game so far?

I for one am absolutely loving it, I haven't been able to play a mmorpg for years where I don't get bored within a day, the game runs so well on my system it's great.

I managed to level Thaumaturge to level 20 and Miner to level 15 over my busy weekend and I had a blast! Can't wait for release so I can level my THM even further, I really want to try out Black Mage too!

Miner is really fun too, I find it relaxing and the leves are fun too, I can't wait for release so I can level more and try out the other gathering classes.

I have not been this excited/pleased with a mmorpg since I first played FFXI years ago I absolutely cannot wait till the 27th (I don't get early access because is purchased 1.0 collectors and I don't see the point paying extra £15 just for 3 days of early access)

So how did you guys find it?

Based on my limited experience with it, I'd say it's quite a good game. I leveled PUG to 16, LNC to 13, Goldsmith to 11, and Mining to 12 this weekend. All of it went really well, actually.

The ZAM LS feels like an LS from XI. No whiney or entitled players, just a cool group of guys and gals enjoying the game simultaneously.

I went into the open beta this weekend with the mind-set of trying to learn how the game worked, and I definitely accomplished that goal. The only annoyance that I found, is that leveling with your friends didn't really seem possible. We all ended up soloing due to starting on different corners of the world. Group-play (outside of the DF) doesn't really seem to have much of a place in XIV, yet.

I'm not going to complain about that, though, as I have no experience with the game past level 16. I'm hoping we'll eventually get funneled off into the same zone, and we can all begin playing together.

When you get to highrr levels and get airship pass you can play with friends. You can group up and do some leves or do some dungeons :) I had a lot of fun with light pt leves :D

I like it. I'll buy, I'm still a bit nervous about the errors, but I'm on the "it's a beta test" side of the fence.

Yup - once you get past the "The <insert nation here> Envoy," you have full airship access. The next story quest (It's Probably Pirates) starts you off on the beginner dungeon arc (Sastasha -> Tam-Tara Deepcroft -> Copperbell Mines), culminating in the Ifrit fight @ 20. That's about as far as I got in P3, and in OB I stopped after CBM given it was 10.30pm here (Australia), with work on Monday. Post-Envoy, you do start the same story arc, whatever nation you begin as. And 2nd+ classes will be easy to level. Your hunting log + class quests will be contained to your starting city <20, but you can still do it your way.

It's not like XI, where you HAD to party to do anything. Most of the open world content can be soloed, but dungeons, guildhests, levequests etc can be/are group work. Plus the dungeons always give good exp for their level. Long story short, in my opinion the game is much more forgiving to different playstyles than XI. You can group, solo, mindlessly slaughter, FATE hunt, hunting log farm, craft, gather, fish ... you get the idea.

I didnt like the game on my Old Character. Having everything, while in a completely new world felt so cheap...

But i really enjoyed the game on my new character.

They could have made some things accesable earlier, like for instance other jobs. Now you have to do a lot of leveling and quests before you can unlock a job (I say unlock, but it's just talking to a NPC once, no quest or whatever) from another region. They shouldnt have made the jobs region locked. Just job quests. I would have had far more fun if i could equip a level 1 sword and become a gladiator from the go, without losing the starter city that i wanted to have.

Also, if SE would ease up on job unlocking, then you could also choose your starter area since it wouldnt matter anymore. Now you have to take Marauder to something close to 20 before you're even able to leave the island.

Same for the Levequests this game is sort of build around. I didnt get access to those till when i went to bed yesterday. Would have made the whole experience a whole lot smoother.

And then there's Gil. You cant possibly think that an axe i bought from a NPC moments before for 700 gil can only be sold for 2 gil later on. I know they dont want us to amass milions again in mere weeks, but there has to be reasonable alternatives other than completely nerfing sell prices. And it's not just weapons, every item i've seen sells for single digits. Spend 100 gil for 3 iron ore from the NPC, you smelt it into an ingot, and you can almost feel the laughing in your face when you see it's now worth 2 gil. Naturally you use it to make stuff instead, but still.

The game is not perfect. Not by far. But i generally enjoyed it. The world is pretty and very detailed. You can see they put a lot of work into it. The field zones are decent in size, not too small, not too big, just right really.

I just wish they would have made the cities ONE big zone. Instead of for Limsa 12 or such zonelines at every pair of stairs and paths. It wouldnt be so bad if you werent able to see the entire area perfectly, just be unable to reach the walkways without having to zone. I've seen area's twice the size in 2.0 of what Limsa totalled, and we've seen in 1.0 that it really is perfectly possible regardless. So what gives? It's really one of the more anoying points in this game for me.

How do I feel?

I'm pissed.

I keep turning my computer clock forwards to August 27th and the game won't let me play. Reported the company for the BBB for false advertising.

Underlined is the biggest understatement I've ever seen. You get a group of friends and really plow through monsters (and let's say you have the EXP buff for having a higher class by a few levels and are getting baseline +50% bonus), keep that chain going, and you'll see your levels just fly.

I decided to just stick with my older character from 1.0 who had decent levels (22 fishing, 11 alch, 21 archer, 15 gladiator) instead of making a brand new character. I had the EXP bonus the entire time while leveling and after doing all the required story missions to gain access to Sastasha I was halfway through level 16. We managed to keep the chain going for most of the instance and ended up probably 15% away from level 18 when we completed the instance -- that's nearly a level and a half.

FATEs, using misc. quests to level lesser jobs, dungeons, leves, hunting logs, and just pure grinding: ARR really did a damned good job of giving you several options for leveling.

10 levels isn't "a lot of leveling" by any stretch of the imagination. You could seriously just do your hunting log and it will take you all the way to 10. Get a random F.A.T.E. and it's easier.

Secondly, it doesn't matter if the classes are "region locked" because your choice of a starting city doesn't matter. You get a brief minor story related to your region until level 15 where the stories converge after getting an airship.

No, 2.0 is not based around levequests and built around them like 1.0 is. Levequests are nice (but aren't really that useful outside of using them for fieldcraft leves) but they're ultimately for Grand Company seals much later on. They're a bonus and something extra to do for newcomers but not necessary like they were in 1.0. Outside of the chocobo mount bought with GC seals there really isn't anything required by levequests at all. Sure, there are nice perks and gear but they're not required.

Because, newflash, you aren't supposed to be vendoring that equipment. You're supposed to turn it into materia and either use it or put it up on the market boards (which will net you more than the item actually cost). You act as if the concept of items bought from a vendor going down in price for resale is something new: it isn't. FFXIV just took it to extremes as to entirely eliminate a method they saw RMT use over, and over, and over in FFXI to get ahead.

1.0 showed why having one gigantic zone was a massive mistake; the amount of choke and lag renders it undesirable and frustrating. Cities always have massive concentrations of players at any given time and splitting the city up was the smartest thing they could do considering there's only 2 zones in each city (Steps of Thal/Nald, New/Old Gridania, and Limsa Upper/Lower Decks) it isn't that huge of a deal. The loading times are only a huge deal when first going into a city as the data's being loaded; once you're inside it doesn't take more than a few seconds.

I'm a 1.0 player and i decided to start a new character for this, and i LOVED it. I was able to get CNJ to 20 very quickly, thanks largely to doing the SAS dungeon over and over, hurray for zero wait time on duty finder as a healer XD. also leveled ARN to 17. Didn't get done as much as i wanted to, but, I have enjoyed every step of the way.

The scenery i find beautiful and peaceful, makes traveling the land all the more enjoyable and there seems to be loads of ways to gain exp; questing, FATEs, dungeons. With all of these, it doesn't really feel like a 'grind' to me.

All in all, loved it and can't wait to next week.

I'm enjoying myself to me it feels like playing ffxi just quests give me exp but i really see no difference. (just fyi you didn't NEED groups in ffxi, i soloed pretty ok in ffxi even before fov came out it just took longer nothing more infact leveling solo trick was to kill mob pets since they were 1/4 the hp of the master for roughly the same exp)

anyway... Alot of people said ffxiv caters to the WoW crowd, my question is HOW? the questing is more set up like how ffxi quests were you litterly chain quests all for story. they all end up tieing to the lore of the city its near. Plus everything is locked untill quests wow wasn't set up like that at all. infact 1-15 level in ffxiv is a wee bit slower the the first 1-15 in ffxi since u spend most of the time running around vs straight mob killing.

I finally did my first hands-on this weekend. I really wanted to spare myself any frustrations or misconception a closed beta would give me and waited till the open beta to finally preview what was in store. Having witnessed the Sept. 2010 beta and launch thereafter, I have to say it's hard to believe this is the same game. Even with 150k players online simultaneously across all servers, I did not experience any lag. I enjoyed using a UI specifically designed for a mouse. The terrain was splendid, full of character. The Black Shroud looks and feels like a forest instead of a series of ditches and trenches in a forest. And there is so much help and guidance anytime you need it (in fact, I probably could have used a little less help, but better too much than too little).

Gone are the horrible punishments for playing too long like Fatigue and instead we have Rested XP, its kinder and wiser complete opposite that rewards casual play. No more copypasta terrain or the feeling you've crossed that same river 6 times on the way to your camp. Conversely, the towns are no longer these giant, empty sprawls, and if that's not enough, there's even free-to-use teleporters all around each city so you can speed up your arrival at every shop and guild you want to visit. Likewise, there are plenty of world transportation options that simply don't run out because you've used them too much that week. You can teleport yourself from anywhere in the world provided you have the gil for it, but there are cheaper options like one-track chocobos you can rent that run to a fixed destination or airships that fly between cities.

Above all, this is a game that's welcoming. Unlike ARR's evil twin: the 1.0 launch, this is a game that wants you to play, but there's also no pressure to, and there's plenty of help if you need it. There's even tutorials on basic MMO concepts like pulling if you've never played one before. There's help getting parties if you need it with the handy Duty Finder, but you're also perfectly capable of advancing while solo on any class. You have the ability to make dozens of characters on one account, no extra charge, so you can even explore different personae at your leisure.

All around, this is a very promising start, or restart I should say.

I'm one of those people who really enjoyed 1.0. That's why I paid for a subscription from the moment paid subscriptions started until 1.0 ended. Having said that, though, 2.0 has been an absolute blast for me and such a tremendous improvement over the original. The game is just so much more enjoyable now. My anticipation and excitement for this is surpassed only by the anticipation I had for Guild Wars 2. My wife is going to play it, too. I pre-ordered a physical CE for PC for her as well as a physical CE for PS3 for myself so I can play on my PS3 in addition to the PC. We're both super excited for this game.

To summarize for OP's question, I have found this game to be incredible and WELL deserving of this second chance.

Edit: I should also mention that I finally got to try the PS3 version and was totally impressed by how well it moved and played. The controller interface was easy (for me) to use, and the graphics weren't that bad. Overall, I'm very happy with the PS3 version and will be playing it at least 25% of the time (the rest being on PC, of course) or whenever my wife is playing it on her PC and I want to play with her.

I'm the same way. I level pretty slow because I want to go out there and see as much as I can. I like to get to know the world itself just as well as I do the game mechanics. In addition, I love to read every word of text that pops up. In a game like Final Fantasy XIV, there are plenty of interesting personalities and stories to be told, too, so I do spend a lot of time reading. I like taking my time, and this game is perfect for that, at least as far as I go.

thm leveling achviments is a monty python holy grail refernce. And along the ul'dah story line there is a line similar to princess bride. "i'm <long lalafell name>, you killed my brother, prepare to have the same. (yta not an exact copy but a similar scene if you watch it the whole way through.

As someone who played FFXI for 5 years then went to WoW (and enjoying it up until just before MoP released) because that is where all of my friends went, FFXIV feels kind of like coming home ,only home is now in a new and mysterious place begging to be explored and experianced. I am eagerly looking forward to EA and live to be able to experiance this new world. I love the updated UI which, yes, does feel a little like WoW but I don't think that is a bad thing. I know a lot of people that really had trouble with the UI in FFXI and so once thier free trial was up, they stopped playing. Hopefully this new and improved interface helps keep players as opposed to turning them off.

Great! I got my PUG to 20, GSM to 19 and MIN to 12.

I was affected by the 90k error once and a weird graphics slowdown, but after a reboot everything was fine.

The game itself is great. I played in P3 so I've done most of the 0-20 content quite a bit. So in that regard I am a little burnt out. The "weight" from 1.0 is still there just on a different scale, the graphics are good, there's little lag and once you're in game, everything is very polished.

PUG is fine. I hear people complain about the rotation and cool down, but I think it's fine.

GSM/MIN is kinda fun too. I thought the crafting/gathering in 1.0 had potential, and now they are the most fun systems like this in any MMO I've played. Granted I don't really craft in other games so YMMV.

---

The bad:

Even though i wasnt affected by it, the 3102 error needs to be completely fixed by next week and certainly taken care of by the 27th.

The lack of VO in most of the scenes was jarring. I assumed all of the main quest would have been VO'd.

There are some UI ticks that bug me that I found while crafting and selling items. Not huge deal breakers but noticeable enough.

Pretty much as a DD the DF took a bit too long to get a group. In P3 it took an average of 5-10min (as a DD) whereas in P4 it took about 30. Granted this may have been due to the connectivity errors. Once inside, all of the groups I had were great.

Lastly, communication. Saying SE is A LOT better at communication from the 1.0 days in an understatement. However they need to work on their damage control. From the P3 beta key scenario to this new error, SE really is a bit slow and not completely in tune with the more needy NA/EU crowd. They're getting there but I still think its something that they need to work on.

----

In the end, as of right now, the pros do outweigh the cons. I can't wait to play ( I won't be able to until THE 2ND OF SEPTEMBER!) And hopefully have enough restraint to take my time and enjoy the world.

Oh, one thing i forgot to mention that I found to be a problem.

While in LL, there is a ARC class quest "What's in the Box". You had to click on a stack of boxes, which in turn spawned some slimes, these slime would do a AOE right off the bat. Once you defeated them, you had to re-click the boxes for a CS. Here is the problem, if you were in the CS and someone clicked on the boxes a first time, the slimes AOE would knock you out of the CS. I had to do the CS like 6 times before I wasn't interrupted.

I submitted a message to the help desk letting them know of the issue and that they should have it to where you cannot be hit while in CS.

That was my only problem found. ^.^

I was very happy with the game after phase 3. Now though, I'm just ecstatic. The game played incredibly smoothly on my laptop, much moreso than phase 3. Leveling up seemed to go much faster, which I know some people will complain about, but I liked it. I made it 1-20 mining without using a single leve, and the whole thing probably took me less than 8 hours. In phase 3 I had to use DOZENS of leves to hit 20. I'm a little bummed about gathering attempts going from 6->4, especially in conjunction with the level 20 abilities which grant 3 shards per attempt instead of 1... I was hoping they'd decrease the GP cost of the skill or increase the number of shards per attempt, but oh well.

Marauder is now by far my favorite class. I tanked my first 2 dungeons last night and this morning and it was just an absolute blast. I'm still working on a foolproof rotation to keep aggro on multiple mobs (occasionally 1 will peel off if I miss it with overpower or flash), but for the most part I've kept solid hate and no one died in either run. I also managed to get 3 pieces of gear in the 2 runs, so I'm happy about that as well.

I took goldsmith to 18, and although it gets a LITTLE grindy towards the higher levels (spamming brass ingots definitely got a bit old), I still rather enjoyed it, and made some excellent HQ crafting jewelry out of it. I can see a HUGE market for the HQ versions of these, so I'm very excited about that. Also, if anyone is looking to GET an HQ version of crafting bracelets or rings, let me know and I can make them for you for free. I also took BSM to 10. Didn't get to do any other crafts because I was busy leveling gladiator to 13, pug to 12, etc, but I will definitely be getting most of them up this coming week.

Overall, I'm incredibly impressed with the game. It's highly addictive, tons of fun, and the ZAM LS is just awesome. Can't wait to get back in on the 24th!

Had a great time. Joined the carby bonanza and got ACN to 13 before realizing that i'd have much better luck getting dungeon groups on GLD, so switched over. My main focus this weekend was unlocking Wolves den access, so i wanted to make sure i got through the dungeons/ ifrit.

Of course I got sidetracked with some of my crafting jobs, but i had a great time tanking the starter dungeons on GLD, then doing Ifrit on my level-synced LNC with a nice local group on my server. I took a visit to Wolves Den (looks cool) and signed up for a level 50 match on my DRG, but it was late and i went to bed before getting a queue pop. Next day i couldn't log in due to one of the bugs i assume. So no PvP testing for me this weekend. Also, ACN is really fun. DoT and kite, DoT and kite.

The game is really well made I would say. Good enough graphics (I am not an elitist) good story line for me and a lot of things to do.

I had an idea how much "content" it would have but I was surprised today when I actually saw how much it has. I only leveled THM to 20 and then I picked 4 crafting jobs and leveled them around 6-8 each. And then I realized there are other crafting/gathering jobs as well as the rest of the classes etc so I was surprised and realized that at least for me it will take a Long time maxing all of them.

For the dungeons my fav is CBM and tam tara the first one the sastasha to be honest is too long for me and with no real interest so yea I don't like it but then again it's the first dungeon so it's newb friendly for all of us.

I like some of the armor it has the colors and the designs. It has a lot of options and I like the colors I see all around. 1 big plus here is the dyes you can get and dye your armor to be different.

Fun fact there was a miquote called pink panther in there and she would dye all her armor pink to much her name.

I loved the music as well. Haven't heard XI music that some say it's better but I liked ARR's music and that says a lot since I usually close music/sound for any MMO I play.

The achievements now. So far I had gotten a few maybe 5-10 but to be honest I didn't bother to even open a second time my achievement window. Do you know if you earn titles or something like you did in wow if you get a certain hard achievement? Cause if not then I don't really care for them.

Hardware wise I don't know what they say but it is kinda heavy for my pc. My computer is not very new but not old as well so it kinda stroke me when I saw it was struggling with it.

The only thing I really hate in this game is the target rotation. I mean the damn mob is next to me and that goes and targets a mob that is 100m away from me and I can't even hit. I mean what's up with that!

I still believe that some kind of an automatic group/raid ish form up should be in order when you join a fate so thatt healers can take an active role in them.

Something small I also don't like is that when you lose connection it will throw you at the intro where you normally click start to get into the character selection screen. But since you lost connection the "start" button is grayed and can't be pushed even if you got your connection back so you need to exist the client re open it and then get back to click start etc.

On a different note at the beginning I thought it would be a great deal that I couldn't use /tell in dungeons but since you can talk with your ls I don't think there is a real problem.

As with Phase 3, I enjoyed my time in Phase 4. Having not had any previous experience with the game other than reading about it (PS3 player), and being desperate for an MMO (again, PS3 player), it was rather a refreshing experience.

There are a lot of new quirks I have to figure out later on (targeting correctly, cross hot-bar setup, etc.), but that will come with time and familiarity. It's also brought back my love of healing, especially when my friend runs into a bunch of stuff he does not want to (plus, he died to the Blanga Smiley: lol). It's getting me back in my rhythm of checking out my surroundings, and basically just doing all my old healing duties from other MMOs in the past.

I had a lot of fun in FFXI even though my progress wasn't as far as I'd hoped it'd be. I feel that I can enjoy this game equally as much, and, hopefully, for as long (if not longer) than I did FFXI.

Also, I'm remiss for missing out on joining the Zam LS. I do hope to remedy that during early access, if still possible...

I was lucky enough to not suffer from the 3102 error, I actually never got disconnected (only once when my connection went down)

The music is great in this game just like in FFXI, could listen to it all day!

Also I did notice ALOT of ARNs around but I'm just taking a guess at that's because it's a new class and everyone wanted to try it out, when release comes I'm guessing classes will even out.

I can't wait! 6 days to go D:

I'm having fun, it feels like ffxi with quests giving exp, as long as the community stays helpful i see no reason to not play it. I play mmo for community, because gameplay can be had in any game. I play games from every genre and they all end relitivcely the same or play the same "press x button for action till something dies"

My only concern is the overly solo centric start up. I get not everyone enjoys playing with a group. But there are those who do, then you have the wow happenstance of 99% solo 1% group and people have no idea how to play as a group (which started the must have voice chat mentality).

Imo mmo going more solo defeats the purpose of calling it massive multiplay. (which you don't play solo)
