Just got back from 4 different locations none of them were able to provide a pre-order early access code with purchase.

Needless to say I didn't buy anything.
Bestbuy, Future Shop, EB Games, Game Stop. (Yes I'm Canadian)

So my question now is how are people getting early access to the game? All these shops told me they were releasing the code on the day of release with the product, August 27th.

Well then, they flat-out lied to you. They can't release the pre-order code for early play after early play has ended.

Take a look at this: http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=152&mid=137540202563009719#4

I think the flowchart may be a little outdated. It says for a CE 1.0 holder you can buy anything for the early access. However the information provided here seems to contradict that in that SE account management won't allow a second PC code to be entered.

My situation is I own 1.0 CE, am most likely not legacy, and I purchased a digital PC standard version for the pre-order code. I'm hoping the pre-order code is separate to the game code so I can use that for early access and give the game code to a friend. Otherwise I may have to go and buy the PS3 version.

As far as I know, what you describe is possible. You use the pre-order code for your account, and give the game to someone else. They'll get the 30 days but you get early play and the in-game items.

You get a big fat LEGACY emblem on your character selection page if you qualified for a legacy account.

This ^ If you paid for the three months cumulative service, you'd be legacy and see the black/red emblem on your screens anywhere you logged into a FFXIV site or the game. If not, unfortunately, you'd not be legacy at this time.

Really you're not missing much but three days' time (and probably less since i'm sure there will be maintenance during those days), a handful of items that re replaced within five levels, and the legacy mount(s).

Well according to Pulazka's flow chart I should get early access because I had purchased the 1.0 CE

Nope.

Indeed 1.0 CE folks just get the items, not early access.

Talk about being shafted, so my options of getting early access is to buy a PS3 key and link it to my account on the lodestone then?

Umm, I'm not sure what you guys are on about, but I'm a 1.0 legacy player and I never registered for any betas, regardless I can access the open beta right now.

I suggest you download the beta installer: http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/inst/ffxivsetup.exe

And just login and see if you can play, 1.0 players of course, you need to already have a 1.0 account.

---------------------------------------------

Oh my bad, you guys are talking about early access which is different, it seems open beta is 17-19th and early access is Aug 24th? I'm pretty sure for us 1.0 players our progress in open beta are carried forward anyways, so it's kinda like early access! haha - I'll just hope I get early access too then...
