General Questions - Trivial, Superficial, etc.Follow

I recently lost myself to a couple hours of beta vids (YOGSCAST, I think they were) and found myself interested in trying ARR in August/September, but I was hoping maybe a few of you could clear some things up that I haven't yet found the answers to in my forum trawling, though I've only started to research this within the last day or so. Most of these aren't heavy questions, and as such I don't think they get discussed in obvious threads much.

1. Can you hide headgear? Too often in MMO's headgear is ugly. Not a deal breaker for me, just curious.

2. What are travel times like? The day I quit FFXI was the day I had an hour to dink around and I spent the entirety of it moving from where I was to where I wanted to go.

3. Can you truly gather in high level areas with stealth? I'm intrigued by this--not that I expect to be 100% immune to mobs while I farm, but to be able to sneak around a little and avoid behemoths if I have my wits about me is nice. I'd hate to think I'd have to gather a full party to go get some fish or ore.

4. Can you level DoL/DoH without also leveling DoW/DoM? By that I mean, will you need gear from instances/questing to advance in say Culinarian?

5. Do you need to type in the name AND surname to send a /tell? I'm guessing yes, and that a friends list will cure any inconvenience, but I'm thinking about "on-the-fly" situations. I suppose a follow up would be, can you right-click on an avatar or name in the chat log to send a speedy tell?

6. Do linkshell/guild tags sit below your name or after it? For some reason I can't find a definitive SS of this. Just wondering--I remember a toon from my EQ days with the impressive and hallway-scraping name: Brahamamama Badmamajama <League of Nonaligned Wizards>...I might adjust my naming strategy if the latter is the case...(applies to #5 as well--rather not burden fellow players with a finger-twisting moniker)...

7. Are nodes "claimed" or do you have to furiously chop your tree before the other three moochers get the mats out of the node? This was a huge frustration in FFXI, and to a certain extent WoW as well. Again, not a deal breaker, but definitely reduces the fun factor when play time is tight.

8. Is your inventory capacity fixed or expandable? I would think there must be some way to increase your capacity over time as with most other games, but I haven't seen any evidence of this yet. Thinking about lazy days fishing and not having to run back and forth every so often to unload my haul...at least not as often.

9. Is camping in Final Fantasy truly a thing of the past? After the deep scars of camping in EQ and then FFXI, I was spoiled by years of always-on-the-go WoW...not sure I could go back to sitting in Crawler's Nest for hours again...

Thanks!

1. Yes
2. Traveling is fast and when you attune to camps and towns, you can teleport there regardless of class.
3. Not sure about stealth
4. Yes, but you can do leves and they will give you stuff to craft.
5. Yes and I think you can click on their name if you are in party.
6. Name sits above ls name iirc
7. Not sure
8. Well you can get retainers and they will probably add more inventory quests
9. No more camping nm its pretty much fates and dungeon instances from what I understand

3: Yes. Miner gets stealth at lv 8, I assume other gathers do as well. When you first get it, it hides you from mobs up to lv 20. Later traits augment it to 30, 40, 50. Stealth does have the downside of cutting movement speed in half however.

4: Technically yes, though you can't start as doh/dol, Your first job has to be dow/dom, you can start crafting/gathering once you finish your starting job's lv 10 quest. (though really, you'll wanna get to 15 on a combat job and get airship access.)

7: Nodes seem to spawn for each player individually. I've seen other miners swinging away at points I couldn't see. In cases where another miner's point was in the same spot as mine, they didn't reduce the number of attempts I got.

8. As of Phase 3, you get 100 inventory slots.

You also get 25 "armory" slots for each slot that you can equip gear to, so that's another 300 slots just for equipment, and 8 slots for Soul crystals (which I'm assuming are for jobs).

Your retainers also have 175 slots each, as well as however many slots you can have up selling at once.

This is NOT including any possible (future) storage in homes or free companies.

You should not be having any inventory issues in this game (other than hating the lack of sorting) unless you have all DoL and DoH classes leveling and can't keep track of all the subcomponents that you'd need.

To expand a bit.

2. Aside from teleports, you have a return option which returns you to your HP every 15 minutes. You also have airships unlocked at level 15 which take you to the 3 cities, you also get your own personal chocobo around level 20 that you can call upon wherever/whenever you like.

4. Gear for DoH/DoL classes is crafted or bought from vendors/Grand Company seals. You will never have to run a single instance if you don't want. I will say that it might take you a while to accrue enough seals to buy gear from Grand Companies without a DoW/DoM class, as the only way you'll be able to get them is to turn in the daily crafting/gathering items for seals. Please note, however, that you WILL NOT be able to complete the main storyline without running instances. They are required to progress the actual story of the game. You can however, complete your crafting/gathering class quests without ever doing instances.

5. Yes, but you can click their name anywhere. It will then give you options to invite them, send tell, etc.

8. Also, you have a separate tab for key items, and a separate tab for shards/crystals/clusters. The inventory should almost never be an issue, especially if you sell what you craft.
