RP-ing and such...Follow

#1 Jul 08 2013 at 10:34 AM Rating: Good
Hi guys! Goji here with a question for everyone.

For those of you who don't know: I have never finished a FF game in my life. The only thing close is KH, which is upsetting.Smiley: frown

But I have learned many new stuff about monsters and themes of FF worlds, however, I don't know what this world has to offer. I know extensive knowledge about FF but I don't know the story of this MMO as i should because i never played the Version 1. So my question is:

"What are the requirements for RPing in a FF MMO?

I ask this because the wiki pointed out a "unofficial" RP server called "Besaid" and generally I like a good story so my hope is that it does become a RP server. Yet, I have tried RPing in SWTOR and it did not work out. So I'm thinking instead of knowing THE FORCE, I have to focus on a much larger realm of information and rules to RP. So if you have questions about this question please ask. If you have an answer...please let it be a list of requirements. Anyone can answer but if your beta and your already doing it, it would help out if you gave me some pointers.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me out! :)

This is Goji signing off, Kupo!

Balmung is the "Legacy" RP server.

Gilgamesh is the RP server for people who don't want to play with Legacies.

EDIT: These are unofficial. I would start here if you want to learn: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/

Besaid merged in to Balmung, so Balmung is the unofficial RP Legacy server. Gilgamesh was recently made the unofficial non-legacy server.

Some excellent resources for FFXIV RP-ers:
Role Players Coalition: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/
Be sure to check out their Role Playing Handbook: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770

Those should be enough to at least get you started. Good luck!

Gilgamesh is the unofficial RP server for the RPC forums. Realistically, it's between Behemoth and Gilgamesh with Behemoth in the lead.

Universal Poll(view)

Strictly RPC Poll
I say strictly, because you need to register and wait for activation to Vote.

That "universal" poll was a joke, no offense intended. It allowed multiple voting with ease and as such, its methodology was fairly sloppy. It also enabled ANYONE (non-RPers included) to cast votes, further potentially skewing the results.

Balmung is where a large number of RPers are congregating, new and old alike. There are subgroups heading to Gilgamesh and Behemoth though. Whether or not the smaller server RP groups make it for the long haul or not after new shiny MMOs come out and take portions of the population away is anyone's guess.

And the RPC poll isn't a joke? it was posted in the beta forums in hopes to increase their votes, yet from the time it was posted to the time it closed, there was no significant change to the poll what-so-ever. That being because you had to go through the registration process(however miniscule it could be) Just to land a vote even if you never visit that forum again. From that time, the votes for Behemoth had only gone up by 1 or 2 points. Even if you went through the Beta post, the 30 people posting Vote Behemoth were never even added into that RPC poll.

Nah, it wasn't a joke. It had a primary target audience and hit that audience as it was intended to. Also, the poll was advertised looong before the reminder was put up on the beta forums (June 17th). Sorry you seemed to miss all the advertisements :(

Just a bump to notify everyone that the RPC is voting later today on the secondary RP server for those who desire a non-legacy RP server. The poll will be held in our RP Discussion forum section and be up for 24 hours. It will also be heavily moderated to avoid possible cheating (which also means temporary restrictions to user registration).

Just want people to be aware so nobody is all like "zomg, why didn't I know about a vote?! You manipulative bastards!" :p

Why do you think the total vote count is so low? I'm not denying the advertisements you put out for the poll, but if the target group wasn't directed to only RPC members, the difference in the vote count would have been greatly different.

Why are you so obsessed with poll numbers? Look, you have a server you're happy on. Good for you. You don't need numbers to validate it. Focus on your flock and have fun :) . I'm not going to argue over something so trivial that will literally be irrelevant in a couple months time. Though if things don't work out on Behemoth as you anticipated in terms of RP activity, know that Balmung's community will welcome you with open arms ^.^ . Good luck!

To the OP. There's a RP handbook that some RPers created. It's kinda looong. But you may find it useful: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770

Honestly, I'm still undecided on what server I will join(RP or not), and though I will probably never use it, I will keep my 1.0 character on Excalibur. Also, numbers do make a difference when you are reaching out to a community that can't reach back. e.g. Advertising to a community that needs to register to vote but can't or don't want to register.

BTW, I did try to register to vote last month, but even though my account is created, it still isn't activated. Not that I care to activate it anymore.

Actually, your account has been active for about a week now. In fact, you were even congratulated as the 1,000 member of the site. And you just logged in just 30 minutes before your last post here...

Every forum I join, I set to automatic log in every time I visit. I know the account it created, but every time I went to vote, it would always say your account is not activated.

I recently opened the forum to check the voting status

Unfortunately, kupos, im new to this game but still want to follow the main storyline even if it has changed since version 1.

So second question....

Which server? Legacy or Non legacy?

Welcome to Zam! I hope you're good at pissing match RPing, its an absolute requirement on this forum (as you can see.)

Honestly I would say non-legacy. Though legacy will be populated, not so much in the lowbie zones(at least from what I've seen during beta). There is also quite the number of Legacy players who have chosen to start fresh on the Non servers. So on Non legacy you will have new and old players all starting on common ground, as well as a very fresh economy.
