and it seems that Lightning is literally in XIV as well, as an NPC.

I wonder if they intend to keep her as a recurring character like Cid, now?

Cid always has a theme of being a mechanic or scientist. What would Lightning's recurring theme be? Moody soldier?

I think the fact that they are pushing Lightning parallels to the other female characters in current video games: Tome Raider and Remember Me. It is nice to see a shift from male main characters to strong female leads. I don't think Lightning is replacing Cloud from FFVII (Cloud is one of the most iconic character in FF series), but I do think they (SE) is pushing away from characters that are depressed and not-knowing-myself. Then again, Zidane and Tidus's personality was much more positive.

I wish I had played FFXIII to get to know more about Lightning, but I didn't get far in the game before my 360 died. But the feelings I got from Lightning was that she's a strong woman. I think female gamers can relate to Lightning and the personality of Lightning a shine a new light for male gamers as well.

I agree with you on that one. I don't think they are going to put Lightning in the game like they did with Cid. I thought the pic of Lightning in game was just a nod from the guys over at FFXIII to FFXIV as like a good job or good luck kinda thing.

I enjoy the little things like Mogs and Chocobos and whatnot that crossover multiple FF universes. But main characters? Not liking the idea. And if they do bring one over, then they kinda have to bring all of them over.

Just some back ground info on this, during E3 FFXIII: Lightning Returns presentation, the producer showed off a Lightning with Miqo'te outfit http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2013/24/1371173223-lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-x-miqo-te.jpg As one good turn deserves another, Yoshi-P is putting FFXIII's Lightning and Snow's Outfit into FFXIV along with weapons from the game. He has also said they plan on add a city cloths tab for outfits such as this.

Also so Yoshi-P has made it clear that FFXIV will pay homage to Final Fantasy's deep and rich history. You'll see monster from previous game like Ultros and Hein. The Crystal Tower is going to be end game dungeon. People loved it when the battle music from FF2 played during a fight or that two individuals make a return to Final Fantasy. Garlean uses gunblades and Magitek armor but it makes since doesn't it?

Magitek and gunblades are game-breaking for some people?

The only game-breaking part of that for me is why can't I have either of those in FF XIV yet?

On a serious note, I don't really believe Lightning will make an appearance as an actual character in the story. If anything, maybe an easter egg NPC selling cactaur dolls.

It's Final Fantasy. There's a long tradition of style over functionality, especially with weapons.

Gun swords, swords the size of of a light pole, "shuriken" the size of a trash can lid, blitzballs, etc.

I agree it looks silly, but I'm sure there is some one who hates Moogles too.

Man.. I think its all fun, joy, and good kicks and stuff, just hope they don't get too ridiculous with it. Seems like the line between FFXIV and a mesh of other ffs is being erased little by little. I want XIV to stand up on its own two feet. I do enjoy the fanservice however. Lets just not get too crazy Yoshi-P.
