Anyone run across an option to remap controller buttons in their meanderings through the menus? I'd like to change enemy targeting to the bumpers.

I am not 100% sure, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think they mentioned they were going to add this. Again I vaguely recall them touching the topic, but I think I remember reading this.

I was hoping if it wasn't in there already they would be adding it, thanks.

I hadn't seen anything, but there are a lot of options that are not open yet I think.

On a side controller topic, the last night I played, my index finger was getting bit tired from holding down the R2 button. I know there is the toggle option, and I use the mixed setting, but it's pretty tricky to get the hang of, so usually I just hold it down. Long story short. Tired finger. I was thinking of getting a pair of these, my buddy swears by them, and the price is right.

If anybody uses these, or thinks they are a waste of money, please speak up, I'd love to know.

I tried toggle mode and it will take some getting used to. Those triggers look interesting, I use a 360 controller and they look similar.

First time I tried the toggle mode I went into the teleport menu & forgot to toggle it off. So scrolling up/down in the port menu resulted in me wasting some hi-pots & ethers. That was smooth.

I did the same thing, was freaking out because I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working.

I like the toggle mode, but if I'm fighting more than mob I don't use it. I like the mix, because once I get everything down to 1 mob, I can turn it on without having to worry about pressing turning it off to switch targets. It's great to turn on for the long winded boss fights as well.

Those things are only a buck, I guess it's not putting me in the poor house to try um.

Has anyone tried using Xbox360 controller for PC yet? How does it work out in the game?

I was planning on getting one just for the times when I want to have some laid-back gaming experience. For endgame content and so called "serious gaming" I will be sticking with mouse + keyboard though.

360 controllers work like BUTTAH. I've had no issues with mine, however it is corded. You will probably need a third party program to use a wireless one, even if you plug it in via USB. I strongly suggest getting a $26 GameStop wired 360 controller if you are planning on picking one up and you actually have a GameStop near you. I'm pretty sure they are licensed by Microsoft so they are plug and play for all modern games that support controller use. Plus the Official Microsoft ones are $40+ and pretty much the same thing.

Also, I've tried toggle as well, and I hate it for combat. However, toggle or mixed work wonders for crafting. If you don't map an action to triangle/Y you can still use it to quick synth in the craft menu without having to toggle the cross bar off. It is pretty nice not having to constantly toggle/hold the button while crafting. I'm sure you could also map a synth action to triangle/Y if there is one for the same effect.

I use the wireless 360 controller with the Microsoft receiver and have had no issues. I hear the third party receivers don't work very well though and Microsoft receivers are hard to find. Had mine since XI.

Does that wireless 360 controller still turn itself off when you set it down for a break?

In 1.0 you could not re-activate the controller after a break without shutting down FFXIV and restarting. So then I bought a wired 360 controller.

I'm curious if this issue has been somehow fixed in ARR.

Not that I've noticed. I set the controller down for a half an hour today to take a shower and it was still on when I came back. Incidentally, I did find an interesting filter system in the menu. It's based around holding LB and pressing A B X or Y to change what you target. Not remapping but I played with it all day, have to say it's pretty functional once you get used to it.

This targeting you speak of is what I want more information on. Are the available targets limited to four? Icon targeting is faster than scrolling, but imo four available targets is not enough.

Sorry I worded that badly. The way it works is by holding LB and pressing A B X or Y you change your targeting filters. I have them set up Y is my All filter, B enemies only, X NPCs and other players along with objects and A is party members only. There is a learning curve but I've been using it all day and it works great once you get the hang of it.

Cool, thanks for the reply and the info. Sounds like the wireless 360 controller is viable for ARR.

It does shut down after a while .. I just hit the guide button and you hear a ding and it picks up just fine...

That is the case.. There a bunch of receivers out there that claim they are oem but they are not.. It has to say Microsoft on it or they are fake. I had ordered one and had to cancel even though it said official when I read the reviews they said it was a Chinese .. I got a oem one off ebay and it works perfect. They are out there and they are harder to find. Most people that have the problems are buying knockoffs.

If they say xbox 360 on them they are fake even if they say genuine. If you look on the packages no where does it say Microsoft and there are reputable places selling them as genuine. If you read the reviews people will say fake. Has to say Microsoft at the top of the receiver.

The major thing I noticed with 360 pad (guessing any controller) was that if you weren't a certain distance from an enemy, it would be completely excluded from target switching. Was kind of annoying trying to switch to a target right in front of you, yet it cycling through everything in the far background. I would have to break target, run back to put a little distance between us, then reinitialize the target. If they get that sorted out, I will give 2 thumbs up as controller being just as viable as mouse/keyboard.
