So I went and did some cooking this weekend and noticed that I really didnt need to farm anything.. All meats and fish and mats to make all the things were sold on the npc 2 feet from the guild. Is this just for beta or will this be how it in at launch? I understand that crystals will need to be farmed but not much else.

When I was doing crafting I noticed this too. I think it's only the first couple tiers though. Once you get higher levels, there's probably going to be lots of stuff you have to go and find.

I'm almost positive this will not be the case when the game launches. I'll have to see if I can find Yoshi's comments on that.

Hmmm, then we need money to level instead of farming all the items? Perhaps this will change (I'm hoping).

I started playing with Alchemy and somewhere around the 10-15 range I had an item I couldn't make because of a missing material that wasn't sold at the NPC. Believe it was some cotton thread which I'm guessing could be found at the weaver's guild but sine I wasn't making a trip there and didn't want to wander the city checking every other NPC to see if they carried additional supplies I just skipped it over.

Weaver's Guild would not have it. It would have Cotton Boils, which may or may not be there on release.

Moko Grass I have yet to find a harvesting spot for it though.

I can see it being that way for low level crafts, but if they start putting darksteel ore +1 and gold ore +1 on vendor my mining career will be over :(

The highest level ore I saw on vendors was Iron, and given the text from the Leatherworker Guildmaster for the level 20 Leatherworker quest, I'm not confident they will actually stay on the vendors.

This gathering of mats from vendors across Vanadiel is a task I'd like to see retainers handle. This wouldn't step on toes of gatherers and make things less tedious.

Everyone should put on their running shoes and get their pick axes or hatchets ready. You'll find what you need spread across Eorzea unless you are willing to pay other people to do it for you.

FFXI had a similar setup at the guilds. Certain items would be available (in varying quantities) on certain days, in certain shops. I enjoyed camping NPC's against other players hoping to buy the NPC out before the other player. Over the years the game changed a bit to include various rare and semi-rare items dropping from fairly easy BCNM/KSNM etc. I can't remember the quest available in Aht Urgan where you fought a fly for a chance at a nice crafting/money drop. I enjoyed the alternatives offered to procure materials. It kept things fresh. Especially when you found a little known NPC that had some hard to find items.

You shouldn't have to be. The botany nodes will be around trees. They appear as a shiny spot on the side. I haven't done any mining yet, but I would assume they appear the same. Those would be found along rocky walls or crevasses out in the middle of thanalan or la noscea.

I'm under the impression that they have not turned on the crafting nodes outside of their respective starting areas yet. (i.e. Botany in Gridania only, Mining in Ul'Dah areas only.)

Wait so you won't be able to buy/sell crystals to craft with on the market board / AH thing? Do you get them from leves or something? Because during phase 3 I used up all my lightning ones and I wanted to find out how to get more but I couldn't figure it out. I always thought selling crystals was a decent money maker for people who liked fighting but not crafting.

Yeah you get them fighting.

Not sure about Lightening, but I got a lot of Ice and Earth crystals from Botany. Hopefully they'll allow us to obtain them through other means than just fighting.

Pretty sure you can sell crystals on a direct basis (from one player to another for gil) even if they're not on the market boards. Cue the shouts for crystals for sale.

Botany is the fastest way to get crystals, though. Different areas in Gridania have different crystals on the trees. Crystals are also frequently handed out as quest rewards.

How do you dye your gear? I didnt get a chance to mess with it at all last phase. Do you have to be a certain level or certain craft? How does it work?

Dying requires a quest I've read, found on the port to La Noscea if I remember correctly.

You can sell crystals on the Market board i have searched the market board in P2 and saw crystals listed. Remember every item that can be sold will show up on the market board even if no one is selling that item at the moment.
