Targeting Players with ControllerFollow

I had a horrible time attempting to target players for cures using the D-Pad. I know there are a bunch of targeting settings in the menu, but I didn't get a chance to mess around with them. I looked at them but they were sort of archaic and I didn't want to mess up what I already had.

Did anyone find settings that made targeting players easier without hindering mob targeting terribly?
