You'll receive an invite in an email, which will give you a client to download. Legacy members can give you more information about that.

Sick, so now it's just a waiting game for tomorrow or the day after then, lol. and just to be doubly triply quadrly 100%ly sure, because I owned it before im just in it to win it. There's no you may or may not get in, I'm just in.

Nothing I gotta tag inside my account or anything to refresh it, or anything to turn on, just fillin out that beta form, and im in and good to go for waitin on that email in the next day or two.

I'm very anxious to see what's become of FF14 since it's horrifying release two-ish years ago, so I need to be super certain of the details. :>

*edit*

Here was the answer to my question btw, for those wondering.

Atkascha wrote:
Vanity gear, yes, but I believe Yoshi has said it will not apply to AF at first. No gear swapping, either.

Atkascha wrote:
You can't use vanity gear in place of your AF armor. It is possible that both apply, but I know Yoshi mentioned he didn't want the job identities to be compromised by allowing us to put different gear over our AF. Down the line he mentioned this will change.

I feel good about the direction the games taking after hearing that. Means alot to maintain the integrity of the job roles.

I'm actually curious of this myself. I noticed that when I was finally able to log into my SE account today, my FFXIV account was not active, and I had to actually reactivate it. I'm going to be really peeved if I don't get in the beta simply because I didn't have the account activated in time. I signed up for the beta using my email months ago, but hadn't been able to locate my security token until this morning to get on the SE account management system. I'd reccommend at least checking it out to see if yours is still active, and reactivating it just in case.

That's it for now. Cheers!

I'm not in the beta, but I can answer most of these since it's public information.

1) Materia is something that gets melded onto gear (think gem system from WoW, but way more complex). You get materia by fighting battles while wearing certain equipment. It gains a spiritbond, when that reaches 100%, you can turn it into materia. There are various grades, and you can meld multiple materia onto certain gear. That's the very basic jist.

2) Gear degrades when used, or more severely when you die. You will be able to see the % it's at, and can repair it yourself or go to an NPC for repairs. As far as I've heard, it doesn't break. It can reach 0, but is still repairable.

3) Since it's a companion it can die, but I'm pretty sure outside of battle you can just resummon it, similar to how companions work in swtor.

4) You can purchase housing in any city (don't think it's available yet though). For now, I think it's limited to one house per person.

5) You will have retainers to hold your excess stuff. Also, I think initial storage is larger than 25... not positive on that. No idea if there are moogles out in the wild, I'm guessing no, at least not for storage purposes, but possibly for mail.

Thanks to all the people that answered the questions for me.

I never played WOW only FF11, so that's my ownly reference.
1) I'm assuming that TP is the same as HP? and decreasing as you get hit.
2) Does ALL gear degrade or just the special one's that you can add materia to? And with materia does your special gear degrade slower? Is material a money sink?
3) Can the Summoner summon and call his bird at the same time?
Thanks

1) TP is used for your special abilities and is separate from HP and MP. It decreases as you use abilities.

2) All gear that is currently equipped on your character degrades with use and death.

3) Since summoner wasn't in the first version nor in phase 1 or 2 this is still an unknown.

Crap. So no one knows anything about it then. Hmm.. If I didn't already own the game from when they tricked us all back with 14 originally, I'd just wait and see, lol. But I may as well try it regardless since I already own it.. -_- I feel like I have battered wife syndrome with SE sometimes, lmao.

Btw, phase 3 lets anyone in that already owned FF14, right? Not just legacy people or whatever.

I mean... 1.0 AF was really good. It was good without being the best, though like XI, some pieces were better for specific activities.

On Warrior, The helmet and boots are some of the best items for those slots, but I have a better tanking helmet, and melded better gloves, body, and leg armor.

This may change though with materia changes. The reason for this in 1.0 was that materia for slots was restricted. Meaning I couldn't ad vit and str to footwear, head could only have mnd and int stuff, etc.

Yoshi-P has also said the interruption rate has been adjusted for Phase 3, because he recognized this as a problem.

I really think most of the major complaints of the battle system are already taken care of... can't wait to see for myself this weekend.

So I take it from that, that it means the casting/interrupt system will be comparable to FFXI where if something hits you it has a chance to completely STOP your cast? And that it's not like WoW's pushback system where it just makes the spell take longer to cast?

It stops the casting, there are skills you can increase (Dedication I think? I forget the name) that will prevent it or reduce it. It's not 100% like XI was though.

I have a question for those lucky enough to be in the beta. How's the user interface? I ask as I have seen the video of the PS3 interface, and while that's good for a console, it would be frustrating, at best, on a PC. Some specific questions might be helpful:

1. How is the mouse functionality with regards to targeting, menu selection, etc?
2. Is the basic keyboard interface similar to WoW with predefined action bars, but allow you to customize how many bars are displayed, abilities/key mappings for each bar?

I liked the majority of the interface. It was pretty smooth. I played mostly on GamePad, and my main issue with it was targeting enemies when there were FATE's happening. Finding the target was hard enough, usually by the time you did, it was dead.

The interface if i am not mistaken is different if you use a gamepad and different if you use a mouse and a keyboard. I didn't try out the gamepad but they mouse/keyboard was really good. Didn't have a problem. There were some voices about the targeting and i believe they mentioned they adjusted it somewhat for phase 3 but i am not completely sure.

As for if the interface is similar to wow...the interface is fully customizable as in they let you put everything where you want em. With that been said keep in mind they said thy will let the community make add ons so expect even larger customization.

The interface was pretty sharp and smooth. SE still makes some odd decisions with regards to menu choices, but infinitely better than 1.0.

And yes, the tool bars are customizable, with I believe, more customization coming in the next beta phases.

I was very happy with the UI in general and it should be even better in P3.

The interface was fine.

It behaves the way you expect it to behave. And that's exactly what I want out of an interface. I want it to operate the game and not make me think about it too much.

Just a side note that i thought was super cool....
Yoshi~P liked to get on the game and answer peoples questions when i was in phase 2. It was pretty cool to see. He would even answer some questions in limited english. I hope he does it again in P3.

Oh yea and not just that even if you simple /w him a well done keep up the good work he would still answer. I mean there were like 100 guys around him talking to him none stop and yet he would always try to answer everything. Whatever they say for his work or what not i give him respect just for that cause he was close to the community.

Hmm... you know I expected these forums to be a whole lot more bloody when I got back here... color me impressed.

I have a write-up planned for Friday afternoon that SE just undercut thanks to the early NDA release. I'll have to see if I can rush it out early.

Thanks for all the info.

1) Does the game interface allow for macros other than that bar or is that it?
2) Can you send other players stuff?

Yes, and Yes.

The interface allows for customized macros, though it will fit within the existing bars given to you (There's more pages than just the ones shown, but you can only display so many at a time.)

The macros themselves are fairly simple to program, though, to be honest, there's not much need to be having macros with how small the system is. You'll use Macros mainly for tagging targets or posting pre-recorded chat messages. Some Buffs could be chained together but it ultimately will be better to micromanage them separately.

The mailing system is fairly simplistic. I didn't sent items that way but if I recall there is an option to. I can retest that in Beta 3 if you're not in the Beta.

There were numerous changes worth celebrating in the beta. So many in fact that I recommend those who left early in 1.0 come try the game again. yoshi has built a masterpiece.

That said, I am one who did not like the battle system in the beta. I am glad however that Yoshi continues to listen to players feedback. We will see what improvements have been implemented come Friday.

1) Materia are items with stats on them. for instance an intelligence materia has 4 tiers to it. INT I, II, III, IV. The higher the tier, the better the stats. Materia can be melded (bound/crated to/put in) weapons and armour to increase their stats. Putting one materia on an item is 100% guaranteed to work. However you can go for double/triple/quad etc melds however they are a lot lower success rates and in 1.0 if it didnt succeed you not only lost the all of the materia, but the item you were melding them to as well. I believe i read somewhere that you will only lose the materia when melding in 2.0 but dont quote me on that one.

2) Yes all weapons and armour have durability and they are clearly shown as a percentage on the item, crafters can repair specific gear (ie goldsmith could repair jewelery and other things that gsm could make) there are also NPCs that repair gear but they dont repair it to 100%, only 99% and durability needs to be 100% to trade items.

3) As of 1.0 chocobos didnt die, you could be attacked while on them and there were 3 outcomes from this, you took damage and continued to run along, you took damaged and got "lagged" while stay on your chocobo you ran extremely slow...slower than foot speed it seemed, or youd get knocked off your chocobo and it would run away. However with chocobo fighting and stuff in 2.0 im not sure how it will work

4) No mog houses, your storage was your retainers, you get 2 for free and can buy more. and you can switch your job anywhere by switching your weapon (under the right circumstances ie cant be in battle)

5) Your pack actually has 100 slots (which is down from 200 in 1.0) and i believe retainers are being cut from 100 slots to 50 each. But to access them you had to either go the the market ward they were lacated in or ring of of the retainer bells located in various parts of town
