Contemplating starting DAoCFollow

#1 Mar 28 2007 at 3:44 AM Rating: Decent
I've been playing WOW for quite some time now and have gotten a bit bored with it and am now looking to start playing another online game.

I'm looking here for answers whether DAoC would be a game for me and would appreciate any information or pointers you can give me.

The most notable question I would like to see answered is whether or not this is a PvP heavy/oriented game. I don't like the PvP aspect in WOW and would prefer to focus on PvE mostly. Is that a possibility in DAoC ?

Another question is whether or not grouping is a heavy aspect in this game. I would prefer to solo most of the time (or grouping with my wife at times). In WoW, there are many instances for which you need a full 5 man (or more) group. Is this the same in DAoC ? I like instances, so this is not a real problem.

Also, is there an active Guild community in DAoC ? And is it absolutely necessary to be part of a guild to be able to do some of the things in the game ?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance !

DAoC is all about PvP. There is no game that can compare with the PvP aspect of this game.

It has a good solo game to it (create a stealther, and once you learn places to go, you can thrive just solo, or in a stealth duo with your wife).

Some PvE needs a few people, but they have made almost every mob encounter doable with just a few people. Very few PvE mobs need a large group.

The biggest problem this game has is that it is old and is slowly dying. The people that play it love it, but it is a difficult game to learn and get good at. Now, new people are very discouraged by the lack of groups in leveling up and people to learn the game with as you go from 1-50. Powerleveling makes it so a person that knows what they are doing can go from 1-50 in literally hours.

There are though relic raids which could involve hundreds of people fighting against each other in a keep siege. 8-man groups roam around looking for other 8-mans, trying to surf the zergs to kill stragglers, and usually rolling over solo's they find along the way.

You may or may not like this game...it is easy enough to try it for free by signing up for the free trial and seeing if you like the class(es) you selected. I doubt you will be disappointed in the PvP, but the game like any has its drawbacks. (Note: today, Wednesday March 28th, the game is down for a patch.....might have to wait until tomorrow or at least late tonight to begin)

Like Thuri says....I also love the game....but even after all this time I get terribly frustrated when signing on at the time I do and trying to get a group in RVR and everything always seems to be filled up these days....because all the people I know and my alliance and guildmates are all 50's and RVR is where it is at.

Start a new toon...nah..not for me...the support isnt there like it used to be when everyone started out and there were always groups of any level you wanted to do anything anywhere..

Times have a changed.

only thing thats outdated is probably your equipment, and basicly equipment and right combination of classes is everything, im considering starting to play agian but just to be able to have fun i have to run 3 accounts at the same time in order to level and get the stuff i need, but then again becouse i just go and get the stuff i need my toons are all pretty well outfitted, find out what is your realms best farming classes and make one;p pimp it out so you can farm encounters or what ever and get some cash & items to build up your template so when you go into rvr your not going to get 1 shot by a cracked(celerity) up heavy tank

I'm in the same position as the OP, looking for a good MMO. A friend at school introduced me to DAoC, though, and after some research, I'll probably pick this up. I like PvP, and like grouping. The relic PvP also has me intrigued, and I cannot wait to play.

Dark age of camelot is a great game in my opinion. Most of the time people are nice and helpful.(unless your out in New Frontiers) Then people can get a bit more mean but its all for a good reason. One thing i have found usefull is to have friends or 'connections' With the help of other people you can be 50 in a matter of days if you really work for it. I would deff. tell you to join DAOC. I have played WOW and didnt find any taste for it. Try DAOC and i can almost gaurentee you that you wil like it.
