Okay. I am an avid WoW player and I am looking to expand my horizons. I heard this game was the greatest thing since sliced bread when it first came out but I hear alot how its only geared towards people who have hit the lvl cap now.
Honestly If I were to start this game I would only be a part time player i play wow probly about 10-15 hours a week due to work and schoo.
Realy I just want to know if this game is managable if I dont know anyone already established and the I have limitied time.
Would it be worth it to invest time in this game or should I just wait until another game comes around to epand out from WoW?

I think it is. I got tired of WoW's endless grind in early November and decided to try out DoaC and I really like it and I think you would too. Unlike WoW, which is endless farming and faction grinding, DoaC is acually FUN!

I just started playing DAOC about 3months ago. I have actually never played a mmorpg before - but I LOVE DAOC. It is so much fun - very addicting. The other players are much fun - I personally prefer the role playing servers - and I have major loyalty to percival :) I hope that you find it as fun as I do.

At times it appears that the game is geared to the higher levels - but I don't think that's actually true.
Mythin has been redoing the quests in the starter cities and it is becoming more friendly to newbies than when I first started playing 2 years ago.
I started on a regular ToA server and see the many changes there - played Classic some - not impressed, not enough imagination for Role Play servers. I find myself torn between the PVE server and ToA ones. The Pve server is very friendly to new people and a nice way to learn the game and geography. All 3 realms are friendly and a nice way to try out different classes.

It is more friendly, but I began a little over 2 years ago, and there were plenty of people to level with.
The real problem nowadays is lack of new people to game to help other new people and group with.
Yes, if you wanted to solo 3 years ago vs. today, it is 5x easier at least, but until you get at least until 20, it is a ghost town b/c most of the player base is old.

I'm returning myself so I am looking forward to seeing the "old neighborhood". I haven't played in about a year, was doing the WoW thing. I realized I really miss the crafting system, solo and group ability, WORKING PvP and quests so I am doing the trial to build a character then come back full time.
I'll be on Lancelot but I am undecided which class to start with. I used to play a paladin, which I really liked but I also had a 50 necro and a 40 Friar. So I am torn. Any suggestions?

ill be honest and hope to help you as i am a MMO vet, played every one of them, and only just got on to this game. i played WOW, EQ2, SWG, GW, and DDO. wow and eq2 are the tops of my previous ventures in mmo work. but eq2 got boring early and wow, well WoW was fun until you hit lvl 50, and then it sucks, and the community sucked. kids or adults who simply wont help you unless they have a chance at gear.
here, so far, and im only lvl 8 And a week in ( cant play much due to work), but i like it a lot. the folks are all nice and helpful, a veteran MMO community. graphically, well, it isnt EQ2, but it isnt anything bad. the skill sets are tops of all the games, unique feel to each skill based on classes, above par animation, and you feel like you are actually developing a character class as opposed to say, an eq2 char where you're char shares all the archtype skills until late in game. here, you have a niche early. the availbaility of items for decent prices early is great as you can affordably upgrade all the time, maybe not to top lvl gear, but each lvl you can find something to upgrade and not pay out the butt for it.
questing is a bit weird, in that there isnt any map direction. i had 2 intro quests on hibernia, where i had to listen to ppl who i couldnt find, and another where i had no idea where to find the NPC and no direction from the journal. but the quests are pretty direct and fairly easy to find. even early on, there are solo ones, and other ones that should induce you to find some help. the task system is great and i cant wait to find the RvR material.
onto the big factor... the grind. not much i can comment on here. again, im only lvl 8, but if you are to wander out from a town, you are barely under constant aggro. but the sheer number of enemies to kill is great. better than eq2 which was tops until i played this. i hope to find some more puzzle type things to do, but who knows.
if you played MMO's b4, i suggest the furst thing you do is to get into the options and adjust the keyboard keys and shortcuts, as this game doesnt follow the proto typical command lines. but that is easily solved within 10 minutes and makes the game more rewarding.

I've played a few mmo's ffxi daoc swg wow neocron gw l2 and out of them all i would chose DAOC. Mainly because mythic (who are now sponsored by EA) got the balence right, they have managed to balance a mmorpg game which i think all vet mmo'ers would agree no other game has.
The leveling system is unique with players not being peanalized by grouping. It also offers the more dangerous way of leveling by placing you in level limited rvr dungeons and battlegrounds. Also some of the lands you can level in give additional % to exp gain due to their location and on that note also give addional cash drops. You can also have additional exp given to you by having a guild exp buff bonus. Armour and weapons are not out of reach for any player.
The economy of the game is not destroyed by farmers as most items can be obtainable by groups of players and the top will take battlegroups. Thus rendering the top Armour and weapons out of reach to farmers. The RvR is unique in it self with level related battlegrounds and frountier rvr zones which compromise some of the very best dungeons in the game. RvR is the highlight of this game each class can kick your *** regardless what you are, sure some of them are still being balanced and very soon we should have a fully fair RvR system.
Whilst in rvr you gain realm points which can be spent on your character for addional abilities and stats, not forgetting your very own class realm ability.
I could go on about this game but the only thing i can say is go and try it and find out for yourself.
