How goes this game these days?Follow

Hey all.
I used to play on Guinivere (~3 mos. after release.)
Humas, Sorc, Albion.

I understand that classic servers = no buffbots, etc...
and from what I hear newbie areas suck...

what I want to know is:

Does the game still have the same feel and direction it was headed in release / shortly thereafter?

WoW's expansion is coming out shortly, and I will HAVE to try it (after leveling quite a few chars in it.), but miss my old sorc / infil / wizard dearly. I loved the stealth game, and RvR in DAoC...

Is it worth coming back to?
Anyone who doesn't /level their char have any advice for Albion newbies relearning the game?

Thanks for any help.

The game has probably changed a lot since you last played. It is not very newb friendly as you heard. But this game is about the end-game, after you hit 50. Most people playing have done the leveling thing already, and if starting a new toon, just want to get it to 50 as quick as possible. Because Mythic has ways for people to do it, that means truly new people to the game do have problems finding people to group with.

I know our guild has probably had 20 or so completely new people come to it in the past year, and many simply love the game, so although it is not the same as before, it still offers a lot of fun to most. You have to be patient though, and at least wait until you are Thidranki level (20-24) to start to see if you like it. Up until this point, you are sort of on your own in leveling unless you find someone else around. They do exist, just hard to find.

Yeah the newb areas are severely lacking and I think its this games downfall... it only seems like the new players these days already have played and are just returning

I'm a no-kidding newbie to the game, and I must concur with the others' statements. The game's recent improvements, player base, and supporting sites (forums, etc) mostly focus on the 50+ crowd. However, there is something to be said about perserverance and the right attitude. My husband and I came to this game when our interest in EQ fizzled out after five long but wonderful years playing that game. We found some knowledgeable players to coach us along the way here -- all higher level, of course, so it's lonely most of the time -- and we found a haven of good conversation and mature online community to enjoy. You have to be willing to endure quite a few hardships in this game as a newbie, though. If I didn't have years of Everquest gameplay behind me, I'd be so lost in the sauce I would have given up the first week.

I agree perserverance and the right attitude makes a huge difference!

Yes the game is mostly for the higher levels, but Mythic is updating and making the starter cities easier for newbies. I found it most helpful to get out of the starter guild and into a guild quickly - makes it a lot easier to level cuz guildies often wish to help new people in their guild.
