noob here, just some questionsFollow

after playing ffxi for about 6 months now, i started to get bored of it, so i downloaded the 7-day daoc free trial and am enjoying it so far, but just a few questions about actually buying the game.

if i buy the game and the 2 expansions and install them, do i still get to keep my character from the trial?

one big question i had is where are the maps? in ffxi i could always tell where i was with the maps, but with playing daoc for only 2 days, i often find myself lost.

since this game has been out for a while now, there doesn't seem to be many new low lvl people that i can find. is there a certain server i should start on to find noobs like me? can i switch servers every time i start up the game (it seems so, i found that kind of odd...)

can i make more than 1 character without additional fees?

hmmm that's all i can think of right now, i'm sure i'll think of some more later ^^

yes, your toons are tied to the account KEY, so do an upgrade to your account. that will lock the new expansions to your current temp key.

there are some ingame maps you can downlaod and install via the ToA custom UIs, but they will not have a tracker on them showing were you are on the map. Mythic considers that cheating and against their vision of roleplaying. i at least tend to agree on the RP aspect of it if not on the cheating side of it.

hit http://www.camelotherald.com/index.shtml and check out their server list for the higher populated servers. they should be near the bottom of the list. that will be your best bet to find enough lower level toons to group up with. nice thing about DAoC is every class can solo to some extent.

as for servers, yes you can jump server, but your toon will not move with you. also once you start on 1 server with a realm, you are stuck with that realm on that server unless you delete your toon on the other realm first. the exceptions to that are the coop servers. again those are listed in the above link, and should also be listed when you pick your login server.

you can have as many toons as you want total. up to 6 or 8 per server/realm and it will not cost you a thing more. now you can only play 1 toon at a time from 1 account, so if you want to play 2 toons at once, you will have to buy a full set of the game and pay for a 2nd account.

enjoy the game.

thanks for all the info! that helped a lot!

i'm still trying to adjust to the difference between this and ffxi. i'm used to seeing a couple hundred people walking around town, and trying to avoid other people outside, trying to find my own hunting grounds without someone else taking my kills...

but this game has been out for so long already, its exactly the opposite. it seems the majority of the game is in the high lvl's, and i haven't met anyone else fighting in my level range yet, although i've only played to lvl 5...

Guinivere is a highly populated server, at least on the Alb side of things, if you run around Gothwaite (The Shrouded Isles starting point) you'll see tons of people 10 and under, also our low level dungeon Mithra's Tomb is almost always loaded with low level toons running amok :)

Guinivere is the highest populated Role-Play server, which I'm honestly impressed with :) You'll have to agree to play by the RP Rules of Conduct on Guin though.. so up to you if ya want that atmosphere.
