If a group is working on the same quest to kill a particular mob, does everyone in the group get credit for the kill (to complete the quest), or only the individual making the killing stroke?

everyone will get credit. Or should get credit as long as they are on the same step of the quest.

Everyone in the group who is on the same quest and at the same point in the quest should also get the quest item if one is supposed to drop. Quest items go directly into your inventory.
