That is extremely difficult in DAOC as nobody can pick up anything another character drops. Having a house with a vault is the only foolproof way to exchange items between characters. Other than that, you have to resort to asking someone to help you exchange things. Fortunately, it seems most people are honest in DAOC. I've been playing since shortly after release and I have heard very, very few tales of scamming and item theft.
