some one needs a cookie, a warm glass of milk and a break from FFXI, though it seems to be true.

I stopped readin after the first few sentances. If you make it $1.00 for 1M gil, then the Scorp Harness would jump to 30M (for example)... that wouldn't solve anything. EVERYONE would then buy gil, people would do BCNM's far less often... the AH would go nutz with price gouging... the value of gil plummets.

Imagine the net worth of your gear if they did that now... that's the stupidest idea i've ever heard.

But no, I didn't read the rest of the article either...

Hacks ruing all online games. Old Counter Strike used to be mad fun till the wall hackers and aimbots were real prevaliant. Then even if you could find a decent server you had to listen to everyone complain that someone was using a hack. If you were good you hacked that is just what people thought. I was never very good but it was still fun.

The first guy just needs to play a different game. FFXI is difficult and it takes time but that is what I like about it. If you want to get to max level easy and be able to instantly travle places why don't you play Guild Wars. Or you could even play WOW there is traveling there but it is much less. Don't get me wrong both of these games are good they are just different.

while FFXI is a blast to play when things go well (and also when things go horribly wrong), the many points about time sinks have the ring of truth.

it may be time to make a similar blog about FFXI, countering the blogger on a point by point basis. he doesn't come out and say what else he plays (if anything) but maybe we will see a WoWsux blog in the future. (in addition to the many that must be out there)

I was rather mystified by his "why can't I map things myself" rant. Is there something I'm not aware of stopping people from getting out pencil and paper and mapping stuff?

Actually, aren't there places that offer maps you can print out? Even easier.

i think the bloggers point was that he shouldn't have to go out to a website (maybe while using windower O.O) to get an in game map. maybe that it should feel like his character, and not himself, were mapping the area.

i don't remember what game it was but i played but the map was revealed as you moved through the area, as if you were mapping it yourself.

while i and my friend had a good time getting my crawlers nest map, i probably would have bought it from an NPC if i could.

i am still looking for several map coffers which seem to elude my best efforts at searching them out. wave if you see me in the tunnels with a coffer key in hand and being chased by crabs ^^

QFT

The fact is that the /map command accesses a Magical Map which gives you the current state of the area. You are totally free to create paper maps anytime you like, and to print out the maps of others, even the ones taken as snapshots of their magical maps in action. /map is a more dynamic object.

It's an in-character thing, the /map attunes itself to the area or whatever and gives you the information its enchantment has placed on it, it even gives you a limited amount of freedom for enhancing that with your own markers. You buy/quest a key item which activates the enchantment for that area. When you don't have the right key item to make your /map view the area, you get only a vague notion of where your party members are in relation to you, or your widescan targets.

I'd /like/ to be able to look at remote maps, but it isn't really going to vex me that I can't.

Now, why I forget how to ride a choco when I'm level 3, that does bug me.

I think it's great - it keeps people like him from playing the game.

Two thumbs up.

Same reason your lvl 3 PLD can't remember all the neat sword skill and white magic skill he knew as a lvl 45 RDM. :-)

The two in Whitegate are rival brothers that will warp you to Jeuno. One does it for free, but is usually gone, having been kidnapped during the lag fest known as besieged. The other one is a **** who charges you money (that’s not the **** part) if you have used his brother for warps (that’s the **** part).

lol. That was hilarious

I found it funny. You have to admit, these are gripes from someone who has played the game, so they have some weight to them.

I agree. I've played the game constantly (too much) for 3 years nearly, and there's a lot of stuff I HATE about this game, I am sure everyone here can agree.

1) CGF monopolize any NM that drops over 100k in items (sometimes less than 100k depending on server) which ruins the NM camping aspect SE implemented.

2) The King/HNM "claim" system is broken in favor of botters that SE never will be able to get rid of. Whoever invented the idea of "Whoever uses a job ability or magic spell on an enemy FIRST, GETS TO HAVE IT!", just retarded, good job SE, /laugh.

3) Gil is the biggest time-sink of all. It takes an absurd amount of time to make gil, and an absurd amount of gil to purchase one single item worth any semi-value. We can all agree as experienced FFXI players this is true.

4) It can get extremely tedious for certain jobs to seek party and get no invites, not pointing the finger, but namely (Dragoon/Dark Knight/Paladin/Puppetmaster), and even is tedious for highly sought after jobs (Bard/Red Mage/Ninja) during non-peak times, meaning all you can do is wait, or go farm/craft while you wait, and most people tend not to invite someone not in the immediate area of Aht Urgan/Jeuno.

Just to name a few. That is not in an attempt to flame SE or FFXI, because there's just something that keeps me playing it. All of the hard work, all of the dedication, all of the great friends, good laughs, fun times, LOL LINK OMG ZONE, WTF THAT WHM IS WEARING STR RINGS HAHA:

You: HOLY CRAP THIS (insert NM name here) IS UP!

Linkshell Member: OMFG CLAIM AND KITE! I'M ON MY WAY!

You: I'M KITING HURRY UP, I'M RUNNING OUT OF MP!!!!

10 other linkshell members: If you die I will kill you...

Just to name a few.
FFXI = good times, and I think since there's so many bad things in it, and so very little good, yet we adore the game, comes to show the game is pretty damn good, no one can deny.

A lot of it seemed like stuff he just randomly picked to complain about (the whole map thing in particular) but there were some things I agreed with and some funny stuff too. I liked this little exchange in the comments section of the map rant:

Wow you're just an idiot no one is begging you to play the game. Just quit do everyone a favor. After you're done please take your whiney *** in the bathroom fill up the tub with bleach, grab a very sharp razor, slit your wists. Repeat step 3 if needed
Squeenix wrote:
I hope I can find the bleach and razor blades without having to quest for them or waiting for a 24 hour spawn on a mob that will drop them. But then again the drop rates suck so bad I’ll never get them. Help me camp king behemoth to get them?

It's just someone trying to vent some of their frustrations. Despite all those "faults", it looks like the person is still playing so FFXI can't be all that bad. It's just their opinion, they aren't trying to force it on anyone or anything like that.

I'd say it's more along the lines of, he is addicted to something he hates, and can't break his addiction, LOL.

Kind of like being addicted to drinking, you enjoy the feeling it gives you while you drink (playing FFXI), but hate the hang-over and time it takes to recover, losing real life time (time-sink).

If he honestly hates the game so damned much, and despite that fact, cannot stop playing, he has his own personal problems.

Regardless, no one on an FFXI forum cares to hear stupid "flame ffxi" blather, it isn't going to change their minds, if they like FFXI, they will play it, regardless of your whiny ****** moaning, or linked posts on these forums.

I don't know, I think those people actually know that so many people on these forums spend 1/2 of their time trying to get a pretty yellow/red name, and participating in flame wars, and childish rants, telling us their "weekend accomplishments" (like I give a crap), and whining about a rude party member they partied with, rather than playing the damn game and trying to accomplish something, or doing something in real life for a damn change that is productive. But it seems that if everyone on here has free time, it is spent on FFXI, if not FFXI, raising hell on Allakhadamn.

If people would spend half the time they spend on Allakadamn forums, trying to make gil, or trying to better the FFXI community, they probably wouldn't be posting in the first place.

And to prove how much time the FFXI community spends on these forums flaming/ranting/whining, I will be sure to requote this post I made, which pretty much covers everything. Because I already see this one coming:

"You accuse people of ranting and raving, yet you yourself are doing the same"

I'm not ranting or raving, I am saying 85% of this community does from simple facts. I am just trying to make it clearer for everyone else and solve the root of the problem. And as you can tell from my 316 post count, which has taken me 3 years to get vs some of these people with a level 55 main job, with 3k posts that supposedly know more than me, I do not spend any time on these retarded forums other than when I am on break at work.
