Just to clarify, if you were to sub WHM, you would be able to use the job ability Benediction, right? Would be handy to save yourself against that even match mob that's attacking like an IT on steroids.
no, that would be incorrect, you only get access to your main's 2 hour ability, everything else you get at level "x", but the 2 hour isn't accessable.
Sorry Funch if you sub White Mage you dont get the 2 hour ability. Same with all other classes. You only get 2hr ability of your main class thats it. You do get the other abilities and the spell casting but not the 2 hour ability of the sub job.

Ah, makes sense. I figured since you get access to pretty much everything else in your subjob that you'd get the 2-hour also. Since I'm at level 16 I'm trying to figure out what to sub with my thief as I'm soloing, and Cure with RDM/WHM seems pretty tempting.
Word of advice - don't sub a whm with a thief anyway. Casters and Melee dont mix (rdm is considered a caster).
Funch, if you are a solo'ist, don't listen to people who say melee/caster or caster/melee don't mix because of the TP downtime.
I'm a RDM/THF and I'm enjoying my time. I'm able to get into groups with this combo, so don't let the "you can't get into groups without the ideal combo" stuff get to you. Sure I'm short on mana, but I'll drink some Juice before battle starts so I can regen some mana while I fight.
Play the game the way you want to play. Play the combo you want to play.

If you're soloing, sub whatever you want - especially if you're trying to level a subjob. I went THF/WHM to get my THF up, and it worked wonders. I also tried to level my WHM and subbed both RDM and THF to it - and found that WHM/THF was *much* more effective than WHM/RDM.
If you're in a group, subbing mage to mage will help a little more - and people will be more willing to snag you for a group. You don't need the stat bonuses from a melee class, in a group, but every extra point of MP helps a lot... Still, when it comes to it, at level 16-20, people will grab you for your main, and the subjob isn't all *that* precious in the Dunes, so do as you want and enjoy it. :)

I play for enjoyment. If I cared about stats I'd be a Mithra thief, but I'm a Hume thief because I just didn't feel like picking another race. Nothing prevents me from being a melee and caster (though dragoon and summer are kinda pointless after a certain point because you don't have the MP to last long) and you know what, I'm gonna sub WHM just to say I can do melee and cast. I may have had the game since the end of October and still not gotten to level 18 yet, but I'm having fun being social and fishing.
